Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and monitor daily production activities across karigars/artisans and production units to meet order timelines and volume targets.
- Conduct regular shop-floor observation to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and process gaps specific to nose-ornament manufacturing (fine detailing, small components, delicate settings).
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each stage of production — casting, filing, polishing, setting, and finishing.
- Optimize production workflows to increase output without compromising the intricacy and finish nose ornaments require.
- Lead the NPD process for new mookuthi/nose ornament designs — from concept and sampling to production-ready specifications.
- Collaborate with design teams to translate creative concepts into manufacturable products, factoring in material, weight, wearability, and cost.
- Develop and test prototypes; coordinate trial runs before full-scale production.
- Maintain a structured NPD calendar aligned with collection launches and seasonal demand.
- Scale production processes to support high-volume manufacturing while maintaining consistency in design and quality.
- Coordinate with in-house karigars and external job-work vendors/manufacturing units to meet production capacity requirements.
- Track production output, yield, and wastage; drive continuous improvement in efficiency and cost per unit.
- Source raw materials (gold, silver, alloys, stones, findings, and other components specific to nose ornaments) from reliable suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, quality terms, and delivery schedules with vendors and job-work karigars.
- Evaluate and onboard new vendors/suppliers as production needs grow; maintain vendor performance records.
- Manage raw material and finished goods inventory — stock levels, reorder points, and wastage control.
- Implement inventory tracking systems (manual or software-based) for real-time visibility of stock across raw material, work-in-progress, and finished products.
- Conduct periodic stock audits/reconciliation and minimize inventory holding costs and shrinkage.
- Establish and enforce QC checkpoints at every stage of production — incoming material inspection, in-process checks, and final finished-goods inspection.
- Set quality benchmarks specific to nose ornaments (finish, polish, stone setting, weight accuracy, hallmarking compliance if applicable).
- Manage rejection/rework processes and reduce defect rates over time.
- Ensure compliance with applicable purity, hallmarking, and safety standards for jewellery products.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 4–5 years in jewellery/ornament production, preferably in fine jewellery, small-format ornaments, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Education: Diploma/Degree in Gemology, Jewellery Design, Production/Industrial Engineering, or related field (preferred but not mandatory with relevant experience).
- Strong understanding of jewellery manufacturing processes: casting, hand-fabrication, stone-setting, polishing, and finishing.
- Proven experience in NPD/sampling for jewellery or similar precision products.
- Hands-on experience with vendor sourcing, negotiation, and procurement.
- Working knowledge of inventory management practices and basic inventory/ERP tools (Excel, Tally, or jewellery-specific ERP software).
- Solid understanding of QC processes and quality benchmarks in jewellery manufacturing.
- Strong leadership and team management skills to manage karigars, vendors, and production staff.
- Attention to detail — critical given the small size and intricacy of nose ornaments.
- Good communication and coordination skills to liaise between design, sourcing, and production teams.
Preferred Attributes
- Prior experience specifically with nose ornaments, small/delicate jewellery items, or traditional South Indian jewellery categories.
- Familiarity with hallmarking (BIS) standards and compliance requirements.
- Experience scaling a production unit from small-batch to high-volume manufacturing.
- Ability to balance traditional craftsmanship with modern production efficiency.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to lead production for a niche, growing jewellery category.
- Direct involvement in shaping product development and manufacturing processes from the ground up.
