A Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting an organization's computer networks to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient communication between systems, users, and locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and cloud networking solutions.
- Install, configure, and maintain network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Monitor network performance, availability, and security.
- Troubleshoot network issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Implement network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
- Manage IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols.
- Perform network upgrades, patches, and capacity planning.
- Create and maintain network documentation, diagrams, and procedures.
- Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with security and industry standards.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts.
- Experience with routing and switching technologies.
- Knowledge of network protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and MPLS.
- Familiarity with firewalls, VPNs, and network security best practices.
- Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Knowledge of cloud networking in platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Understanding of wireless networking technologies.
- Scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) are often preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications such as:
- Cisco CCNA
- Cisco CCNP
- CompTIA Network+
- Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS
Responsibilities:
- Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless networks.
- Monitor network health and resolve connectivity issues.
- Implement network security policies and controls.
- Support cloud and hybrid networking environments.
- Perform network capacity planning and upgrades.
- Maintain accurate network documentation.
