Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and cost-conscious Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer to lead the engineering and execution of machinery packages for Oil & Gas projects. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in rotating equipment (Pumps, Compressors, Turbines), a hands-on approach to field integration, and a sharp eye for optimizing project margins through smart engineering.
Key Responsibilities
1. E&I Design & Engineering
- Design and develop E&I systems for machinery packages in compliance with consultant specifications, API standards (610, 617, 670, etc.), and OISD norms.
- Select and specify instruments (Transmitters, Solenoid Valves, Vibration Probes, Gauges) and control elements.
- Design Control Panel layouts, including Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), PLCs, and MCC integration.
- Prepare technical documents: Panel drawings, Ladder logic, Instrument Index, I/O Lists, Cable Schedules, Interconnection Diagrams, and Hook-up drawings.
2. Project Execution & Documentation
- Manage the full documentation lifecycle for consultant-based projects, ensuring timely submission and approval of Vendor Data Requirements (VDR).
- Coordinate with TPI for stage-wise inspections and final FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests).
3. Field Integration & Problem Solving
- Provide practical solutions for on-site cabling, earthing, and installation challenges.
- Troubleshoot VFD parameters, control logic errors, and signal interference (EMI/EMC) issues during package commissioning.
- Supervise site teams to ensure cabling and tubing are installed per hazardous area classifications.
4. Cost Optimization (Value Engineering)
- Analyze project specifications and propose cost-effective technical alternatives without compromising safety or quality.
- Optimize cable routing and Junction Box (JB) counts to reduce material costs.
- Negotiate technically with vendors to ensure the best commercial outcome for E&I components.
Technical Requirements
- VFD Expertise: Deep understanding of VFD selection, harmonics, and cooling requirements.
- Rotating Equipment: Prior experience with skid-mounted machinery packages.
- Standards: Mastery of IS/IEC codes, NEC, ATEX, IECEx & Major consultant based Specifications.
- Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with E-Plan or specialized instrumentation software is a plus.
Behavioural Profile
- Cost-Centric Mindset: You treat the project budget as your own and actively seek ways to improve the bottom line.
- Site-Hardened: You are equally comfortable in a design office and a noisy fabrication shop or refinery site.
- Diplomatic Communicator: Able to defend engineering choices to EIL consultants while maintaining a strong professional relationship.
Qualifications
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Electronics Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years in E&I engineering for rotating equipment packages, with at least 5 successfully completed Oil & Gas projects
