About the role
We are a Chennai-based non-ferrous metal recycling and scrap trading company handling copper, aluminium, brass, and zinc. We are looking for a mid-level Import Export Executive to independently manage our international scrap trade desk — covering both inbound shipments (import of copper and aluminium scrap from UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia) and outbound shipments (export of processed scrap and metal to overseas buyers). The candidate must be well-versed in DGFT regulations, customs clearance, shipping documentation, and non-ferrous metal trade compliance.

Key responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end import of non-ferrous scrap — supplier coordination, purchase contracts, pre-shipment inspection, BIS/customs compliance, port clearance
- Handle export documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, Bill of Lading, shipping bill, SDF form
- Coordinate with CHAs (Custom House Agents), freight forwarders, and shipping lines for both import and export shipments
- Ensure DGFT compliance — IEC registration/renewal, advance authorisation, SION norms, import policy conditions for copper and aluminium scrap (HS codes 7404, 7602)
- Handle LC (Letter of Credit), TT, and other payment terms with overseas buyers and suppliers
- Track international metal prices — LME copper, aluminium, and global scrap benchmarks — to support pricing decisions
- Coordinate pre-shipment inspection agencies (SGS, Bureau Veritas, CCIC) for import lots
- Liaise with Chennai Port / Kattupalli Port and JNPT for import/export clearances
- Maintain shipment tracker, import registers, export incentive claims (RoDTEP/MEIS), and trade MIS
- Monitor Basel Convention and hazardous waste norms applicable to scrap imports
Requirements
- 3–6 years of hands-on experience in import/export of non-ferrous metal scrap or commodities
- Strong working knowledge of DGFT regulations, IEC, advance authorisation, and import policy conditions
- Proficiency in customs documentation — Bill of Entry, shipping bill, BL, COO, commercial invoice, packing list
- Experience coordinating with CHAs, freight forwarders, and shipping lines independently
- Familiarity with HS codes for non-ferrous scrap — copper (7404), aluminium (7602), brass, zinc
- Knowledge of payment terms — LC, TT, CAD, DP — and banking coordination for trade finance
- Understanding of pre-shipment inspection requirements for scrap imports into India
- Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/trade documentation software
- Good written and spoken English for overseas supplier/buyer communication
- Degree in Commerce, International Trade, or Engineering (B.Com, MBA Intl. Trade, or equivalent)
Preferred background
- Previously worked at non-ferrous scrap importers, copper recyclers, or metal trading companies
- Experience handling scrap imports through Chennai Port, Kattupalli, or JNPT
- Familiarity with CPCB/SPCB clearance requirements for imported scrap
- Knowledge of BIS certification requirements for non-ferrous metals
- Exposure to Basel Convention compliance for cross-border scrap movement
- Prior experience with UAE, Malaysian, or Singaporean scrap supplier networks
- Working knowledge of RoDTEP/MEIS export incentive claims
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
