Senior Legal Officer – Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Legal Officer to manage and oversee the company’s legal, contractual, compliance, and documentation requirements across marine, shipbuilding/ship repair, oil & gas, pipeline, infrastructure, and civil construction projects. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing and drafting agreements, contracts, notices, and legal documents, providing legal advice to management, handling disputes and claims, coordinating with external advocates and consultants, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize contracts, agreements, MoUs, NDAs, work orders, and subcontractor agreements.
- Review project contracts, tenders, commercial terms, and contractual obligations and highlight legal risks.
- Provide legal advice to management on contracts, employment matters, commercial issues, disputes, and regulatory requirements.
- Handle legal notices, claims, disputes, arbitration, litigation, and recovery matters in coordination with external advocates.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable corporate, labour, commercial, contractual, and statutory laws.
- Maintain and manage the company’s legal records, agreements, licenses, notices, and case files.
- Support project and commercial teams in handling contractual claims, variations, delays, penalties, and payment-related disputes.
- Conduct legal due diligence and identify potential contractual and business risks.
- Coordinate with government departments, legal authorities, advocates, consultants, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist HR in legal matters related to employment contracts, disciplinary issues, labour disputes, and employee documentation.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and advise management regarding their impact on business operations.
- Ensure timely renewal and compliance of licenses, registrations, permits, and statutory documentation.
- Develop standard legal templates, policies, and procedures to minimize the company's legal exposure.
- Provide support during audits, inspections, tenders, project negotiations, and contractual discussions.
Qualification & Experience
- LLB/LLM from a recognized university.
- 5–8 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, marine, shipbuilding, oil & gas, pipeline, or engineering companies.
- Strong experience in contract drafting, contract review, litigation, arbitration, commercial disputes, and legal compliance.
- Knowledge of Indian Contract Act, Companies Act, Labour Laws, Arbitration & Conciliation Act, and applicable commercial laws.
- Strong negotiation, drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Experience coordinating with advocates, legal consultants, government authorities, and project/commercial teams will be an advantage.
