Core responsibilities
- Design and development: Create and improve electrical products and systems, from circuits and power grids to components in vehicles and consumer electronics.
- Testing and maintenance: Test equipment, systems, and components to ensure they meet safety standards, performance specifications, and quality codes.
- Project management: Manage projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget by collaborating with project managers and other engineers.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve problems with electrical systems and equipment.
- Manufacturing supervision: Oversee the production and installation of electrical systems to ensure they meet design specifications.
- Research and compliance: Conduct research to develop new applications and ensure that all designs and systems comply with safety regulations and industry codes.
Key skills and qualifications
- Technical: A strong understanding of engineering science, electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism, coupled with strong math and computer skills.
- Problem-solving: The ability to analyze complex electrical challenges and develop effective solutions.
- Collaboration: Working effectively with other engineers (e.g., mechanical, software) and project managers.
- Tools: Proficiency with design and simulation tools, such as CAD software, is often required.
