Job Summary
The Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of plumbing systems throughout the hospital. The role ensures the uninterrupted supply of water, proper drainage, and efficient functioning of sanitary systems to maintain a safe, hygienic, and patient-friendly environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlumbing Maintenance
- Install, repair, and maintain water supply lines, drainage systems, and sanitary fixtures.
- Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of plumbing systems.
- Attend and resolve plumbing complaints promptly from various hospital departments.
- Repair leaks, blockages, damaged pipes, taps, valves, and fittings.
- Maintain proper functioning of washrooms, patient rooms, OTs, ICUs, laboratories, and other hospital areas.
Water Supply & Drainage Management
- Ensure uninterrupted water supply throughout the hospital.
- Monitor and maintain overhead tanks, underground tanks, pumps, and water distribution systems.
- Inspect and maintain sewage and drainage systems to prevent blockages and overflows.
- Coordinate water supply during emergencies and maintenance shutdowns.
Equipment & Utility Support
- Assist in maintaining RO plants, water softeners, water pumps, and plumbing-related utility systems.
- Monitor water pressure and flow to ensure efficient operations.
- Support maintenance activities related to HVAC and utility systems when required.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow hospital safety policies and infection control guidelines.
- Ensure plumbing work complies with statutory regulations and safety standards.
- Use appropriate tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in work areas after repairs.
Inspection & Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize breakdowns and service interruptions.
Documentation
- Maintain records of plumbing repairs, maintenance activities, and inspections.
- Report major plumbing issues and utility concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
- Record daily maintenance activities and completed work orders.
Emergency Support
- Respond immediately to plumbing emergencies such as pipe bursts, water leakage, drainage blockages, and pump failures.
- Support hospital emergency preparedness and disaster management activities.
- Be available for shift duties and emergency maintenance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- ITI in Plumbing or equivalent technical qualification.
- Certification in plumbing works is preferred.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in plumbing maintenance.
- Experience in hospitals, hotels, commercial buildings, or industrial facilities is preferred.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of plumbing systems, water supply, and drainage networks.
- Ability to diagnose and repair plumbing issues efficiently.
- Familiarity with pumps, RO systems, and water treatment equipment.
- Basic understanding of safety and infection control practices.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Working Conditions
- Full-Time Position.
- Rotational shifts and emergency duty as required.
- Work may involve indoor and outdoor maintenance activities.
