Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all maintenance activities related to production equipment, utilities, and engineering services to ensure uninterrupted plant operations. The role focuses on maximizing equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, ensuring GMP compliance, maintaining engineering spare inventories, managing engineering procurement, and ensuring adherence to statutory, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
The candidate should possess strong knowledge of engineering items, plant utilities, preventive and predictive maintenance, vendor development, engineering procurement, and maintenance management in a GMP-certified chemical manufacturing facility.
ERP knowledge will be added advantage.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Plant Maintenance
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Ensure maximum equipment uptime and production efficiency.
- Prepare annual maintenance calendars and shutdown schedules.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for repetitive equipment failures.
- Implement reliability improvement initiatives.

5. Engineering Purchase & Vendor Management
- Prepare technical specifications for engineering items.
- Verify technical quotations.
- Coordinate with the Purchase Department for procurement.
- Develop and evaluate engineering vendors.
- Ensure timely availability of engineering materials.
- Negotiate technically suitable alternatives.
- Verify quality of purchased engineering items.
- Monitor supplier performance.
6. Spare Parts Inventory Management
- Maintain optimum inventory of critical spares.
- Prepare minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Conduct monthly inventory verification.
- Control maintenance costs through proper inventory planning.
- Maintain spare consumption records.
- Identify slow-moving and obsolete inventory.
7. GMP Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain equipment as per GMP requirements.
- Ensure equipment qualification support (IQ, OQ, PQ).
- Maintain equipment logbooks.
- Prepare and review SOPs related to maintenance.
- Ensure calibration of instruments.
- Ensure preventive maintenance records are updated.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Ensure no contamination risk during maintenance activities.
- Coordinate change control activities.
- Participate in deviation investigations and CAPA implementation.
- Maintain proper documentation in accordance with GMP and data integrity requirements.
8. Safety, Health & Environment (EHS)
- Ensure compliance with Factory Act, safety regulations, and environmental norms.
- Implement Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Ensure safe maintenance practices for confined space, hot work, and work at height.
- Participate in HAZOP, risk assessments, and safety audits.
- Ensure statutory inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, lifting equipment, and electrical installations.
9. Team Management
- Lead maintenance engineers, supervisors, electricians, fitters, welders, and technicians.
- Allocate daily maintenance work.
- Monitor manpower productivity.
- Conduct technical training and skill development.
- Evaluate employee performance.
- Foster teamwork and continuous improvement.
