1. Clinical Management
- Supervise and coordinate nursing care for neonates admitted to the NICU.
- Ensure adherence to neonatal care protocols, infection control policies, and patient safety standards.
- Monitor critically ill newborns and support the healthcare team in emergency situations.
- Participate in patient assessment, care planning, and discharge planning.
2. Staff Supervision and Leadership
- Manage NICU nursing staff schedules and duty rosters.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing personnel.
- Conduct orientation and ongoing training programs for NICU staff.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication among multidisciplinary teams.
3. Quality Assurance
- Monitor quality indicators and clinical outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Investigate incidents, medication errors, and adverse events and implement corrective actions.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives within the NICU.
4. Infection Prevention and Safety
- Enforce strict infection control measures.
- Monitor hand hygiene compliance and aseptic practices.
- Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of NICU equipment.
5. Equipment and Resource Management
- Oversee the availability and maintenance of incubators, ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps, and other NICU equipment.
- Maintain adequate inventory of medications, consumables, and supplies.
- Coordinate with biomedical and maintenance departments for equipment servicing.
6. Documentation and Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely patient documentation.
- Maintain unit records, census reports, and statistical data.
- Prepare monthly reports on admissions, discharges, mortality, staffing, and quality indicators.
7. Family Education and Support
- Counsel and educate parents regarding neonatal care and treatment plans.
- Address family concerns and facilitate communication between families and healthcare providers.
- Support breastfeeding promotion and newborn care education.
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (minimum)
- M.Sc. Nursing (preferred)
- Registered Nurse and Midwife (RN/RM)
- Specialized training or certification in Neonatal Intensive Care is preferred.
Experience
- Typically 3–5 years of NICU clinical experience.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
