About the Role: We are looking for a highly skilled Thumbnail Artist to join the team for the YouTube channel, Serious History. We produce high-quality, historical storytelling content, and we need an artist who can translate epic historical events into highly clickable, visually striking thumbnails. We need someone who understands YouTube click-through rate (CTR) psychology, visual hierarchy, and how to make a thumbnail pop on a tiny mobile screen.
What You Will Do:
- Design High-Impact Thumbnails: Create compelling digital illustrations that focus heavily on character emotion, expressive faces, and dramatic lighting.
- Match the Channel Style: Adapt to our established visual style while elevating the overall composition and contrast.
- Deliver Clean Files: Provide final high-res PNGs/JPGs along with fully organized source files.
What We Are Looking For:
- A strong portfolio demonstrating high-level digital illustration and character rendering. (Applicants without a portfolio link will not be considered).
- A solid understanding of lighting, contrast, and color theory to make subjects stand out against dark or dramatic backgrounds.
- The ability to work independently, hit deadlines, and manage your own freelance schedule.
- Previous experience designing YouTube thumbnails is a massive plus, but strong illustration skills and a willingness to learn YouTube psychology are the most important factors.
