Logistic Manager-Key Responsibilities
1. Material & Supply Chain Logistics
Fleet Management
- Oversee daily movement and scheduling of RMC transit mixers, heavy trailers, and material transport vehicles.
- Optimize fleet utilization to reduce idle time and maximize delivery efficiency.
- Monitor driver performance, trip logs, fuel consumption, and preventive maintenance planning.
- Ensure all vehicle documentation (insurance, permits, fitness certificates, pollution certificates) remains valid.
Inbound & Outbound Tracking
- Monitor dispatches from batching plants/factories to project sites using GPS and ERP-based logistics systems.
- Track real-time transit times and proactively address route delays.
- Coordinate with plant dispatch teams and site engineers to ensure just-in-time deliveries.
- Maintain daily movement MIS reports for management review.
Inventory & Site Stores Management
- Ensure availability of critical construction materials to avoid stock-outs.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels and reduce dead stock at site stores.
- Coordinate material demand planning with procurement and project teams.
- Conduct periodic stock audits and reconciliation.
2. Service & Maintenance Coordination
Equipment Service Scheduling
- Manage AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts) for tower cranes, backhoe loaders, generators, compressors, and other heavy machinery.
- Schedule preventive maintenance to avoid unexpected breakdowns.
- Maintain maintenance logs and compliance documentation.
Vendor Service Management
- Coordinate with third-party vendors.
- Ensure service teams are deployed exactly as per project readiness.
- Maintain approved vendor database and performance scorecards.
Breakdown Logistics Management
- Coordinate rapid mobilization of spare parts and specialized technicians in case of breakdown.
- Minimize machinery downtime and labour idle hours.
- Maintain emergency vendor contact matrix.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring failures.
3. Statutory & Local Compliance
Check Post & SEZ Documentation
- Manage documentation for district border crossings and entry into Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
- Ensure all permits, delivery challans, invoices, and movement approvals are in order.
- Liaise with local authorities when required.
Safety & HSE Compliance
- Enforce HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) standards during loading/unloading operations.
- Ensure compliance at height-restricted and congested urban sites.
- Conduct toolbox talks for drivers and site logistics staff.
- Investigate logistics-related incidents and implement corrective measures.
4. Cost Optimization & Control
Freight Negotiation
- Negotiate competitive per-ton and per-km freight rates with:
- Local transport unions
- Private fleet operators
- Dedicated contract carriers
- Develop long-term rate contracts to stabilize transportation costs.
- Monitor market rate fluctuations and optimize vendor mix.
Reverse Logistics
- Plan and manage return movement of:
- Shuttering materials
- Empty pallets
- Steel plates
- Specialized tools and machinery
- Reduce material loss and idle asset retention at sites.
- Ensure proper documentation and stock reconciliation during returns.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- MBA in Operations/Supply Chain (Preferred).
Experience
- 10–15 years of experience in construction logistics, RMC operations, Reputed Logistic Industry Experience , or infrastructure projects.
- Strong exposure to Tamil Nadu transportation ecosystem.
- Experience handling heavy fleet operations and statutory compliance.
