Role Overview
A barista is responsible for making high-quality coffee drinks, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve beverages such as espresso, cappuccino, latte, and tea
- Operate coffee machines and grinders efficiently
- Take customer orders and handle payments
- Maintain cleanliness of the workspace, equipment, and seating area
- Ensure proper food safety and hygiene standards
- Restock supplies like coffee beans, milk, and syrups
- Recommend menu items and answer customer questions
- Handle customer complaints politely and professionally
Required Skills
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Basic math skills for billing and cash handling
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail (especially in drink preparation)
- Teamwork and time management
Qualifications
- No formal education required (high school preferred)
- Training is usually provided on the job
- Prior experience in hospitality or food service is a plus
Work Environment
- Cafés, coffee shops, restaurants, hotels
- Standing for long hours
- Early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are common
