About Indusun Drilling Fluids
Indusun Drilling Fluids Private Limited is a Dehradun-based manufacturer and supplier of drilling fluid systems and oilfield chemicals, serving upstream oil and gas operators across India. As we expand our technical capabilities, we are building a dedicated team to develop new chemistries and strengthen our in-house formulation and testing expertise.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Technical Manager to join our R&D function and work closely with our Senior Technical Heads on the development of new chemistries. This is a hands-on, lab-focused role responsible for translating technical direction into formulation work, executing lab-scale trials, and generating reliable data to support product development decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive technical inputs, formulation targets, and development direction from Senior Technical Heads and translate these into actionable lab work plans.
- Carry out lab-scale formulation and development of new chemicals and additives, including trial batches and iterative reformulation.
- Conduct standard lab-scale performance testing relevant to drilling fluids, such as rheology (PV, YP, gel strengths), filtration control, shale inhibition, and related parameters, using appropriate lab equipment (e.g. Fann viscometer, HTHP filter press).
- Document test results, observations, and formulation iterations accurately and consistently using standardized lab report formats.
- Maintain lab records, sample libraries, and raw material inventories related to ongoing development projects.
- Coordinate with Senior Technical Heads to review results, troubleshoot formulation issues, and refine development approaches based on data.
- Ensure all lab work is conducted safely and in line with internal quality and safety protocols.
- Support preparation of technical summaries, comparison data, and reports for internal review or client-facing technical submissions, as needed.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with formulation development and lab-scale testing — this is the core requirement for the role.
- Experience in the oil and gas / drilling fluids industry is preferred but not mandatory; candidates from adjacent industries (specialty chemicals, paints & coatings, oilfield additives, industrial formulations, etc.) with strong formulation/lab backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Comfort working independently in a lab environment while following direction from senior technical staff.
- Strong attention to detail and discipline in data recording and documentation.
- Good analytical and problem-solving ability when interpreting test results and troubleshooting formulations.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with technical leadership and report findings clearly.
Preferred (Not Mandatory)
- Prior exposure to water-based mud (WBM) or oil-based mud (OBM) systems, drilling fluid additives, or related oilfield chemicals.
- Familiarity with API/ISO testing standards relevant to drilling fluids or industrial chemical formulations.
- Experience working in an ISO 9001:2015 or similar quality-managed lab environment.
What We Offer
- An opportunity to work closely with senior technical leadership on ground-up development of new chemistries.
- A hands-on technical role with direct visibility into product development outcomes.
- A collaborative environment within a growing technical organization in the oilfield chemicals space.
