Position: Lab Attendant – Civil Engineering Department

Job Summary
The Lab Attendant is responsible for assisting in the smooth functioning, maintenance, and day-to-day operations of the Civil Engineering laboratories. The incumbent will support faculty members and students during practical sessions by ensuring laboratory equipment, materials, and infrastructure are properly maintained, organized, and readily available. The role also includes maintaining safety standards and assisting in laboratory documentation and inventory management.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Management
- Prepare laboratories before practical classes by arranging equipment, instruments, and materials.
- Assist faculty members during laboratory sessions and practical examinations.
- Ensure laboratories are clean, organized, and ready for academic activities.
- Maintain proper storage of laboratory equipment and consumable materials.
- Assist in setting up experiments and demonstrations as instructed by faculty members.
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment and tools.
- Report damaged, malfunctioning, or missing equipment to the Lab In-charge.
- Ensure all instruments are handled, stored, and maintained according to standard operating procedures.
- Coordinate with vendors or maintenance personnel for repairs when required.
Inventory & Documentation
- Maintain records of laboratory equipment, consumables, and tools.
- Assist in stock verification and annual inventory.
- Monitor consumption of laboratory materials and inform the department regarding replenishment requirements.
- Maintain issue and return registers for tools and equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety rules and institutional policies.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of laboratories.
- Ensure proper disposal of laboratory waste as per safety guidelines.
- Verify that safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and first-aid kits are available and accessible.
Administrative Support
- Assist during internal assessments, practical examinations, inspections, accreditation visits, workshops, seminars, and departmental events.
- Support faculty in laboratory-related documentation required for NAAC, NBA, AICTE, IKG PTU, and other regulatory authorities.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of Department or institutional authorities.
Required Qualifications
- 10+2 or ITI/Diploma in Civil Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in Civil Engineering laboratories or educational institutions.
Experience
- 1–3 years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Fresh candidates with suitable technical knowledge may also be considered.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of Civil Engineering laboratory equipment and testing procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
- Ability to maintain inventory and documentation.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and administrative staff.
- Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, Excel, email) will be an added advantage.

Working Conditions
