Role Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled Data Engineer to support and optimize a large-scale enterprise data environment with complex SQL Server ecosystems, high-concurrency workloads, and deep application-to-database integration. This role requires strong expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, schema design, stored procedure optimization, and .NET-to-SQL data access patterns. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in large, mission-critical environments where performance, stability, and scalability are essential.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Optimize and maintain large SQL Server databases, including complex stored procedures, tables, and indexing strategies.- Analyze execution plans, wait statistics, and query performance issues to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Investigate and remediate performance problems such as parameter sniffing, implicit conversions, blocking, and deadlocks.
- Improve .NET-to-SQL data access patterns by reducing round trips and enabling efficient batching through TVPs and set-based logic.
- Design and maintain scalable data models, including star schemas and related dimensional structures, to support reporting and transactional needs.
- Support schema changes, database migrations, and deployment activities with strong focus on reliability and rollback preparedness.
- Evaluate the impact of database changes across dependent stored procedures and application components.
- Monitor locking behavior, isolation levels, and concurrency patterns to ensure system availability and performance.
- Partner with developers and technical stakeholders to improve database design, data flow efficiency, and production stability.
- Contribute to safe release practices for database changes, including validation and regression prevention and rollback scripting.
Key Skills Required:
Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting.- Deep knowledge of execution plans, wait statistics, Extended Events, and query optimization.
- Proven ability to resolve parameter sniffing, deadlocks, blocking, and lock escalation issues.
- Strong understanding of indexing strategies, fragmentation, fill factors, and large-table performance.
- Experience working with .NET applications and database access frameworks such as ADO.NET, Dapper, or Entity Framework.
- Ability to optimize application-to-database communication, including minimizing chattiness and round trips.
- Strong knowledge of Table-Valued Parameters (TVPs) and set-based processing techniques.
- Familiarity with schema design, especially star schema and scalable relational data models.
- Experience with stored procedure dependency analysis and database impact assessment.
- Understanding of transaction isolation levels, especially RCSI, and concurrency management.
- Experience supporting database deployments, migrations, and rollback scripts.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
Additional Requirements:
Prior experience in enterprise-scale, high-volume, high-concurrency data environments.- Ability to work closely with development, QA, and production support teams.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to troubleshoot issues in production-critical systems.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in agile delivery environments is preferred.
- Exposure to data platform modernization or legacy system optimization will be an advantage.
- Domain knowledge in tax and financial compliance, with the ability to translate business logic into robust technical designs is an advantage
- Experience using AI-powered developer tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and MCP in agentic workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud/platform engineering technologies including Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric.
