2D Game Artist — Production-Ready AssetsCritical Requirement
We are seeking an experienced 2D Game Artist who can deliver fully production-ready assets, not only static illustrations or conceptual Photoshop artwork.
Applicants must be able to provide assets such as:
- Sliced character sprites and sprite sheets
- Trimmed transparent PNG files
- UI atlases, buttons, panels, icons, and interface elements
- Modular environment assets
- Layered foreground, midground, and background files
- Animation-ready character parts
- Properly named and organized source files
If your portfolio only contains finished paintings, illustrations, or concept artwork without exported game-ready asset sheets or in-game examples, please do not apply.
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented 2D Game Artist to create clean, optimized, and fully production-ready assets for interactive web and mobile games.
You will be responsible for taking visual concepts from sketch to final production and preparing structured asset packages that developers can directly import into the game engine with minimal additional editing.
The ideal candidate understands both visual design and the technical requirements of game development.
Key Responsibilities
- Create complete 2D game asset packages, including characters, props, environments, UI elements, buttons, panels, icons, and decorative elements.
- Prepare character sprites for idle, walk, run, interaction, attack, hit, celebration, and other required animations.
- Separate character body parts into clean, animation-ready layers when required.
- Create modular background elements that can be reused, rearranged, or extended across different screen sizes.
- Prepare foreground, midground, and background layers for parallax scrolling when needed.
- Export transparent, tightly trimmed PNG files with correct dimensions and padding.
- Create and organize sliced sprite sheets and texture atlas elements.
- Provide editable source files in PSD, AI, SVG, or other agreed formats.
- Follow consistent file naming, folder structure, layer naming, and export conventions.
- Maintain accurate pivot points, anchor positions, alignment, spacing, and sprite dimensions.
- Ensure assets follow the exact grid, resolution, scale, and padding specifications provided by the lead developer.
- Design clear and readable UI elements for desktop, tablet, and mobile screens.
- Maintain a consistent visual style across characters, environments, props, and interfaces.
- Optimize assets for fast loading and efficient use in HTML5 and web-based games.
- Work closely with developers and designers to test assets inside the game and make necessary revisions.
- Review exported files for missing layers, incorrect transparency, excessive empty space, inconsistent sizing, or alignment problems before final delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Proven professional experience as a 2D Game Artist.
- A portfolio showing actual production-ready game assets, sprite sheets, UI atlases, layered environments, vector files, or in-game implementations.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Affinity Designer, or similar professional art software.
- Strong understanding of sprite sheets, texture atlases, transparent PNG exports, trimming, padding, scaling, and pivot points.
- Experience creating modular game environments and reusable asset components.
- Strong knowledge of UI/UX principles for desktop and mobile games.
- Ability to create clean outlines, smooth vector shapes, readable silhouettes, and clear visual hierarchy.
- Ability to follow technical specifications accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and asset consistency.
- Ability to receive feedback and revise work without losing style consistency.
- Ability to manage source files, exports, layers, and folders in a clean and professional manner.
- Good written communication and ability to collaborate remotely with developers and project leads.
Preferred Skills
- Experience preparing assets for Phaser, Construct 3, Unity, Cocos Creator, Godot, or similar game engines.
- Experience creating assets for HTML5 or browser-based games.
- Knowledge of Spine 2D, Adobe Animate, After Effects, or sprite-based animation workflows.
- Experience designing educational or children’s games.
- Understanding of responsive layouts and multi-resolution asset exports.
- Experience creating 9-slice UI panels and scalable interface elements.
- Basic understanding of game performance, texture size limits, draw calls, and asset compression.
- Experience preparing production assets for both desktop and mobile screens.
Art Style Expectations
The artist should be comfortable creating:
- Clean, child-friendly 2D game art
- Smooth cel shading or polished vector-style artwork
- Clear silhouettes and readable character poses
- Simple, visually balanced environments
- Consistent proportions and color palettes
- UI elements that remain readable at smaller screen sizes
The artwork should look polished without becoming overly detailed or visually distracting.
Deliverables
Depending on the project, final delivery may include:
- Layered PSD or AI source files
- Transparent trimmed PNG files
- Individual sprite frames
- Sliced sprite sheets
- Texture atlas files
- SVG or editable vector files
- Animation-ready separated character layers
- Modular environment pieces
- Foreground, midground, and background layers
- UI buttons, panels, icons, and states
- Organized folders with consistent naming
- Preview sheets showing all delivered assets
- In-engine screenshots or test exports where applicable
All assets must be complete, correctly organized, and ready for direct developer implementation.
What We Are Not Looking For
- Illustration-only portfolios
- Artists who provide only flattened JPG or PNG artwork
- AI-generated artwork without professional cleanup and production preparation
- Unorganized Photoshop files with unnamed or merged layers
- Assets that require developers to manually crop, separate, resize, or rebuild them
- Artists without experience following technical game asset specifications
Application Requirements
Please include the following when applying:
- A link to your portfolio.
- Examples of production-ready game asset sheets.
- Examples of sprite sheets, UI atlases, modular backgrounds, or layered source files.
- Screenshots or links showing your assets implemented inside an actual game.
- The software and game engines you have worked with.
- Your availability and preferred working arrangement.
- Your expected monthly salary, hourly rate, or project rate.
- A brief explanation of your asset export and delivery workflow.
Applications without relevant production-ready game asset examples may not be considered.
