Job Summary:
The Fire Safety Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and servicing of fire protection systems, including fire extinguishers, fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, hydrants, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting. The technician ensures compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements while providing prompt troubleshooting and repairs.
Key Roles & Responsibilities1. Installation & Commissioning
- Install fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, heat detectors, and manual call points.
- Install fire extinguishers, hydrant systems, hose reels, sprinklers, and emergency lights.
- Commission newly installed fire protection systems and ensure proper functionality.
2. Inspection & Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of all fire safety equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance as per company standards.
- Check battery backups, control panels, sensors, and wiring.
- Inspect emergency exit signs and emergency lighting systems.
3. Testing
- Test fire alarm systems and detectors.
- Conduct sprinkler flow tests and hydrant pressure tests.
- Perform fire pump testing.
- Verify the operational condition of emergency communication systems.
4. Repair & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose faults in fire alarm panels and associated devices.
- Repair or replace defective detectors, alarms, cables, valves, and extinguishers.
- Resolve system malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain inspection and maintenance records.
- Prepare service reports after every inspection or repair.
- Record equipment defects and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools.
6. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with local fire safety regulations and standards.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Assist during fire safety audits and inspections.
7. Emergency Response
- Respond quickly to fire alarm activations and equipment failures.
- Assist emergency response teams during fire incidents.
- Support evacuation procedures when required.
8. Customer Support
- Explain system operation to clients or building occupants.
- Provide guidance on the proper use of fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment.
- Recommend upgrades or replacements when equipment reaches the end of its service life.
Daily Duties
- Inspect fire extinguishers and verify pressure levels.
- Check fire alarm control panels for faults.
- Test smoke detectors and manual call points.
- Inspect sprinkler valves and hydrant systems.
- Service emergency lights and exit signage.
- Complete maintenance checklists and reports.
- Attend emergency maintenance calls.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of fire alarm and suppression systems.
- Understanding of electrical wiring and control circuits.
- Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.

Educational Qualification
- ITI/Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Fire & Safety, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Certification in Fire Safety or Fire Alarm Systems (preferred).
Experience
- 1–5 years of experience in fire protection system installation and maintenance.
- Experience with fire alarms, sprinklers, hydrants, and extinguishing systems is preferred.

Working Conditions
- Work at commercial buildings, hospitals, factories, malls, hotels, warehouses, and residential complexes.
- May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and responding to emergency call-outs.
- Weekend or after-hours work may be required for maintenance shutdowns or emergencies.
