About the job:
The Master Data Architect - SAP MDG will lead the design, implementation, and evolution of enterprise master data governance capabilities across SAP and connected business systems. This role will be accountable for defining scalable SAP MDG architecture, data models, workflows, validation rules, replication patterns, and governance controls that enable high-quality, trusted, and compliant master data across key domains such as Business Partner, Customer, Supplier, Material, Finance, and other enterprise data objects.
The successful candidate will partner closely with business process owners, data stewards, SAP functional teams, integration teams, and enterprise data governance stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust MDG solutions. This person will serve as a strategic architecture authority for SAP MDG and will help establish a sustainable foundation for data quality, operational efficiency, compliance, and digital transformation.
Main responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the end-to-end SAP MDG solution architecture across master data domains, including Business Partner, Customer, Supplier, Material, Finance, and custom objects.
- Lead solution design for SAP MDG data models, change request processes, workflow design, UI configuration, validations, derivations, duplicate checks, and governance controls.
- Design and oversee integration and replication strategies between SAP MDG, SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, and non-SAP applications using appropriate technologies such as DRF, IDocs, APIs, middleware, and data integration platforms.
- Partner with data governance leaders, business process owners, and data stewards to define master data standards, ownership models, approval workflows, and data quality rules.
- Provide architectural leadership during SAP S/4HANA transformation, MDG implementation, consolidation, migration, deployment, and hypercare activities.
- Establish reusable MDG design standards, playbooks, templates, documentation, and solution governance practices.
- Guide technical and functional teams through design, build, testing, deployment, issue resolution, and continuous improvement activities.
- Support data migration and data quality initiatives, including profiling, cleansing, mapping, transformation, reconciliation, and cutover readiness.
- Evaluate SAP MDG enhancements, SAP Fiori capabilities, SAP BTP integration options, data quality tools, and automation opportunities to improve master data operations.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders by presenting solution options, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations clearly and confidently.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Management, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of experience in SAP data management, master data management, enterprise data architecture, or SAP solution delivery.
- 7+ years of hands-on SAP MDG experience, including at least one full lifecycle SAP MDG implementation or major enhancement program.
- Strong knowledge of SAP MDG Central Governance, data modeling, change request workflows, BRF+ rules, validations, derivations, data replication, and governance configuration.
- Experience with master data domains such as Business Partner, Customer, Supplier, Material, Finance, and custom master data objects.
- Demonstrated experience integrating SAP MDG with SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, and non-SAP systems.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data ownership models, data stewardship, data quality management, and enterprise master data lifecycle processes.
- Ability to facilitate workshops, translate business requirements into solution architecture, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- SAP MDG certification or relevant SAP S/4HANA certification.
- Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare, life sciences, or manufacturing.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA transformations, global template design, multi-country rollouts, or enterprise harmonization programs.
- Knowledge of SAP Fiori, Floorplan Manager, SAP Business Workflow, SAP BTP, SAP Data Services, SAP Information Steward, SAP Data Intelligence, or other data quality and integration tools.
- Experience with agile delivery methods, product ownership, Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar delivery platforms.
- Experience mentoring consultants, architects, developers, analysts, or data stewardship teams.
