Role Overview
We are looking for a dynamic and articulate Communications Executive – PR & Media Relations to lead the organisation's external communications and media engagement efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism, public relations, or media communications, with the ability to develop compelling stories, build relationships with the media, and position the organisation as a thought leader in the development sector.
Key Responsibilities
Public Relations & Media Engagement
- Develop and implement PR strategies to enhance the organisation's visibility and reputation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, media houses, and digital publications.
- Identify opportunities for media coverage and proactively pitch stories, features, and opinion pieces.
- Coordinate media interactions, interviews, press briefings, and press conferences.
- Maintain an updated media database and monitor media coverage.
Thought Leadership & External Communications
- Support leadership in preparing keynote speeches, panel discussion notes, talking points, and opinion articles.
- Identify opportunities for the organisation's leadership to contribute to media publications, conferences, and public forums.
- Assist in developing annual reports, publications, newsletters, and advocacy materials.
Media Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor media coverage and sector developments relevant to the organisation's work.
- Prepare regular media coverage reports and analyse PR outcomes.
- Track communication metrics and recommend improvements to strengthen media engagement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, English, Media Studies, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in journalism, public relations, corporate communications, media relations, or communications within the development or non-profit sector.
Required Skills
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English.
- Strong understanding of media landscapes and news cycles.
- Experience writing press releases, feature stories, speeches, reports, and editorial content.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Strong interviewing, research, and storytelling abilities.
- Ability to simplify complex social issues into compelling narratives for public audiences.
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools and digital news platforms.
