The Lead Specialist Operational EHS - Services and Projects is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) programs within the manufacturing facility.
The role ensures compliance with Indian regulatory requirements, corporate EHS standards, and international best practices while promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the plant. The incumbent will drive EHS operational excellence, support risk management activities, enhance environmental performance, and ensure safe working conditions across plant operations, projects, contractors, and service activities.
EHS Program Deployment & Leadership

Support the implementation of the factory EHS strategy and annual EHS roadmap aligned with corporate objectives.

Act as a key EHS advisor to manufacturing and functional teams.

Lead day-to-day EHS activities and provide guidance to EHS team members.

Drive accountability for safety performance across departments.

Support implementation of global EHS initiatives and corporate standards at site level.
Regulatory Compliance & Management Systems
-
Ensure compliance with applicable Indian EHS regulations including Factory Act, Environmental Protection Act, Hazardous Waste Rules, Water Act, Air Act, and other statutory requirements.

Coordinate internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.

Support maintenance of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.

Maintain legal compliance records, permits, licenses, and regulatory documentation.

Monitor corrective actions resulting from audits and inspections.
Operational Safety & Risk Management
-
Conduct and facilitate risk assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), HIRA studies, and workplace inspections.

Ensure robust implementation of Permit-to-Work systems and contractor safety management programs.

Support machine safety assessments and implementation of safeguarding controls.

Monitor high-risk activities including: Working at heights Electrical works Lifting operations Confined space entry Hot work activities

Support emergency response planning, drills, and crisis preparedness activities.

Track closure of safety observations, unsafe conditions, and risk mitigation actions.
Environmental Performance Management
-
Drive implementation of environmental sustainability programs.

Monitor waste management, hazardous material handling, water consumption, and energy efficiency initiatives.

Ensure environmental permits and reporting requirements are fulfilled.

Support reduction of environmental footprint through continuous improvement projects.

Track environmental KPIs and support corporate reporting requirements.
Safety Culture & Training
-
Promote a strong safety culture through leadership engagement and employee participation.
-
Facilitate safety campaigns, toolbox talks, awareness programs, and recognition initiatives.

Manage EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
-
Support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs and near-miss reporting initiatives.

Coach supervisors and frontline leaders on EHS responsibilities and expectations.
Incident Investigation & Corrective Action Management

Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe events using structured methodologies such as: Root Cause Analysis (RCA) 5 Why Fishbone Analysis

Ensure effective implementation and closure of corrective and preventive actions.

Prepare incident reports and communicate lessons learned across the organization.

Monitor incident trends and develop preventive action plans.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Projects, HR, and Supply Chain teams to drive EHS performance improvement.

Support EHS requirements during new equipment installation, expansion projects, and operational changes.

Participate in management reviews and EHS governance meetings.
-
Maintain professional relationships with regulatory authorities, consultants, auditors, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environment, Safety, or equivalent; advanced EHS qualification preferred (NEBOSH IGC/International Diploma, Advanced Safety Certification).

9 –12 years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing; power, heavy engineering, or energy industry preferred.

Strong knowledge of Indian EHS legislation and global EHS standards.

Experience managing small to mid-sized EHS teams (5+).

Exposure to multinational work environments and matrix reporting (India–Europe preferred). Direct experience in overseas companies as a major desirable bonus.

Certifications in ISO 14001/ISO 45001 lead auditor training desirable.
