JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Cath Lab Nurse
Department: Cardiology / Cath Lab
Reports To: Cath Lab In-Charge / Deputy Nursing Superintendent
Location: Vedansh Superspeciality Hospital & Heart Centre
Job Summary
The cath lab nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. The role includes patient preparation, assistance during procedures, monitoring patient condition, maintaining Cath Lab equipment, and ensuring patient safety and infection control standards.
Key Responsibilities: Patient Care
- Assess and prepare patients for cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures.
- Verify patient identity, consent forms, and required investigations before procedures.
- Educate patients and their attendants regarding procedures and post-procedure care.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures.
- Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records.
Procedural Assistance
- Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures such as:
- Coronary Angiography (CAG)
- Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA)
- Pacemaker Implantation
- Peripheral Angiography and Angioplasty
- Temporary Pacemaker Procedures
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields during procedures.
- Handle and manage catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, and other Cath Lab consumables.
- Assist in emergency cardiac procedures and code situations.
Monitoring & Documentation
- Continuously monitor ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and other vital parameters.
- Identify and promptly report any complications or abnormal findings.
- Maintain complete and accurate nursing documentation and procedure records.
- Record medication administration and patient observations.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of Cath Lab equipment.
- Check crash carts, defibrillators, monitors, and emergency equipment regularly.
- Maintain stock of consumables, medications, and sterile supplies.
- Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs when required.
Infection Control & Quality
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during all procedures.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards, hospital policies, and patient safety guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental audits.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with Cardiologists, Technicians, Nursing Staff, and other departments.
- Provide handover reports and communicate patient status effectively.
- Assist in training junior nurses and new staff members.
Qualification
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in Cath Lab, ICCU, CCU, or Cardiac Care Unit.
- Experience in handling cardiac intervention procedures preferred.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of cardiac procedures and Cath Lab protocols.
- ECG interpretation and patient monitoring skills.
- Emergency and critical care management.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Knowledge of infection control and patient safety practices.
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts, including emergency and on-call duties.
- Exposure to radiation; adherence to radiation safety measures is mandatory.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during procedures.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
