A psychiatrist is a licensed medical doctor specializing in diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct physical/psychological assessments, order tests, and utilize a combination of psychotherapy, medication management, and other medical treatments to manage conditions. - Assessment & Diagnosis: Conducting intake interviews, evaluating patient behavior, and using tools like the DSM-5 to diagnose mental health conditions.
- Treatment Planning: Developing individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
- Medication Management: Prescribing and monitoring psychotherapeutic medications.
- Psychotherapy: Conducting talk therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
- Crisis Intervention: Providing urgent care to patients experiencing acute mental health crises.

Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: A Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
- Residency: Completion of a 4-year psychiatric residency training.
- Licensure: State medical licensing to practice medicine and prescribe medication.
