Industry: Passive infrastructure primarily relates to the physical non-electronic components of a network, such as cabling, racks, enclosures, and fiber optics.
Role Summary: The IT Technician - Passive is responsible for the installation, termination, testing, and maintenance of all non-active (passive) components of the IT network and data center infrastructure, ensuring optimal physical layer performance, adherence to industry standards, and high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
· Install, route, terminate, and test various types of network cabling, including copper (CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A) and fiber optic cables, according to industry standards (e.g., TIA/EIA).
· Perform meticulous installation of cable trays, raceways, conduits, and other cable management systems.
· Install, dress, and label patch panels, distribution frames, and telecommunications enclosures (TEs).
· Assemble, install, and ground server racks, cabinets, and enclosures within data centers and communication rooms.
· Assist with the physical setup and decommissioning of passive equipment during infrastructure upgrades or migrations.
· Ensure all installations comply with safety regulations, fire codes, and data center best practices.
· Execute professional testing and certification of all installed cabling infrastructure (copper and fiber) using appropriate testing equipment (e.g., Fluke testers, OTDRs).
· Diagnose and troubleshoot physical layer issues related to cabling, connectors, and patch panels.
· Conduct regular physical inspections and audits of the passive infrastructure to identify and resolve potential problems.
· Create and maintain accurate, detailed documentation of all passive network infrastructure, including cable runs, termination points, rack elevations, and as-built drawings.
· Utilize ticketing systems to log, track, and resolve work orders and maintenance requests efficiently.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience
0 to 3 years of hands-on experience in structured cabling, data center setups, or ELV (Extra-Low Voltage) systems.
Technical Skills
Proficient in terminating and testing copper and fiber optic cabling. Strong knowledge of cable management and routing best practices. Familiarity with industry cabling standards (e.g., TIA/EIA-568).
Tools/Equipment
Experience using cable certification tools, fiber optic fusion splicers (a plus), and various hand/power tools.
Soft Skills
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for physical layer issues. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education/Cert.
Technical diploma or certification in IT, Electronics, or a related field. Certification such as BICSI Installer 1/2 or equivalent is highly desirable.
Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
