- Equipment Preparation: Calibrate, inspect, and assemble endoscopic instruments and towers to ensure optimal functionality prior to use. [1, 2]
- Sterilization & Reprocessing: Perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of endoscopes and accessories following strict infection control protocols. [1, 2]
- Procedure Assistance: Hand instruments (e.g., biopsy forceps, snares) to the physician, monitor patient vitals, and assist with specimen collection and labeling. [1, 2]
- Patient Care: Help patients get comfortable, explain the procedure steps, and assist in recovery or transport to other units. [1, 2]
- Inventory Management: Restock procedure rooms, order medical supplies, and maintain accurate logs of equipment maintenance
- Attention to Detail: Critical for equipment sterilization and spotting instrument defects.
- Physical Stamina: Requires standing for long periods and moving patients or heavy equipment.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to comfort patients who may be nervous prior to their procedures.
- Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with GI terminology, anatomy, and electronic medical records (EMR)
- Prepare Rooms: Set up GI towers, scopes, and surgical tools before each inpatient or outpatient procedure.
- Assist Physicians: Hand instruments, manipulate snares or forceps during biopsies, and handle specimen collection.
- Reprocess Scopes: Perform rigorous manual cleaning and automated high-level disinfection (HLD) of flexible endoscopes.
- Manage Emergency Responses: Assist on-call teams during off-hours for urgent bedside or ICU endoscopic interventions.
- Maintain Safety Standards: Follow strict infection control, radiation safety, and universal precaution protocols.
- Transport Patients: Safely move patients between pre-op holding, the procedure room, and recovery areas.
