Job Summary:
A Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood samples from patients for medical testing, donations, or research. They ensure proper patient identification, follow safety protocols, and handle blood specimens correctly to maintain sample integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients, donors, or clients using venipuncture or other techniques.
Properly identify patients and label specimens to prevent mix-ups.
Prepare blood samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper handling and storage.
Explain procedures to patients, helping them feel comfortable and addressing concerns.
Follow strict hygiene and infection control procedures to prevent contamination.
Maintain phlebotomy equipment, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.
Enter patient data into electronic health records (EHR) or lab systems.
Assist with administrative tasks related to specimen collection and processing.
Follow healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Education: DMLT certification in phlebotomy preferred (e.g., CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician).
Technical Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture techniques and blood collection procedures.
Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately label and handle specimens.
Communication Skills: Ability to interact professionally with patients and medical staff.
Compassion & Patience: Ability to ease patient anxiety, especially for those afraid of needles.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and handle multiple patients daily.

Requires handling biological samples and maintaining strict hygiene standards.
