An AI-enabled developer is a software developer who uses AI tools as part of their workflow and can build AI-powered features into products. They're not just writing prompts—they combine traditional engineering skills with AI capabilities.
Core Responsibilities
1. Software Development Design and build applications, APIs, and services. Write, review, test, and maintain code. Manage databases, cloud infrastructure, and integrations. Ensure security, performance, and scalability.
2. AI-Assisted Development Use AI coding tools to accelerate development. Generate boilerplate code, tests, and documentation. Review and validate AI-generated code. Refactor and optimize code with AI assistance.
3. AI Feature Integration Integrate large language models (LLMs) into applications. Build chatbots, assistants, search systems, and automation workflows. Connect AI models to company data and business systems. Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agent workflows when needed.
4. Prompt and Workflow Design Create and improve prompts for specific business tasks. Design AI workflows and decision chains. Test prompts for accuracy, consistency, and reliability. Reduce hallucinations and improve response quality.
5. Evaluation and Monitoring Measure AI system performance. Track quality, latency, cost, and user satisfaction. Build evaluation datasets and automated tests. Monitor production AI applications.
6. Governance and Security Protect sensitive data sent to AI services. Implement guardrails and content moderation. Ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Manage model permissions and access controls.
