A. Shop Floor Operations Management
- Own and manage all CNC/VMC shop floor operations across all AMD manufacturing units (including Swiss CNC, HMC, Turning Centres).
- Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly production targets are achieved in alignment with delivery schedules and Operations Head directives.
- Supervise and direct Shift Supervisors, Tool Incharges, Setters, and Operators.
- Monitor machine utilisation rates continuously; identify underperforming machines and drive corrective action.
- Conduct regular shop floor walks (Gemba) to assess safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping standards.
B. Production Planning & Scheduling
- Prepare and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production plans in coordination with Engineering/NPD Head and Operations Head.
- Allocate machines, manpower, and tooling resources effectively against work orders and job cards.
- Manage shift scheduling for all Supervisors; ensure seamless shift handover protocols.
- Monitor production progress against plan; take proactive corrective actions to protect delivery commitments.
- Coordinate with Store for raw material availability and with QC for first article inspection readiness.
C. OEE, Maintenance & Equipment Management
- Track and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) — Availability, Performance, and Quality — for all CNC machines.
- Own preventive maintenance calendar; coordinate with Maintenance Incharge for scheduled and breakdown maintenance.
- Manage machine accidents: immediate containment, safety response, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Ensure all machines are operated with correct tooling, fixture, and programme versions as per engineering release.
- Monitor cutting tool consumption; coordinate with Tool Incharge for replenishment and regrind management.
D. Quality, Rejection & Rework Management
- Drive reduction of rejection ratio on the production floor; track and analyse rejection trends by machine, operation, and operator.
- Coordinate with QC & CMM Head for first article inspections, in-process checks, and final QC clearance.
- Raise and manage NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) for production-related quality issues; participate in CAPA.
- Ensure no non-conforming material proceeds to the next operation; enforce strict segregation protocols.
- Monitor rework work orders; ensure rework is completed within budget and time; update ERP (STERP) accordingly.
E. Blue-Collar Workforce Management
- Manage a diverse blue-collar workforce of 50+ across operators, setters, deburring workers, and supervisors.
- Control and reduce absenteeism; plan for manpower availability across all shifts.
- Resolve shop floor disputes, grievances, and inter-personal conflicts; escalate to CHRO when required.
- Conduct shift briefings, toolbox talks, and safety induction sessions regularly.
- Foster a culture of unity, accountability, and quality consciousness on the shop floor.
F. FOD Control & EHS Compliance
- Implement and enforce FOD (Foreign Object Damage) control programme across all production areas — critical for aerospace components.
- Own shop floor EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) compliance; ensure no unsafe work practices are tolerated.
- Conduct safety audits and ensure PPE usage compliance at all times.
- Report and investigate near-misses and accidents; implement corrective measures.
G. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain all production records as per AS9100D requirements — work orders, process sheets, inspection reports, production MIS.
- Prepare and submit daily production MIS to Operations Head; report on output, OEE, rejections, and manpower.
- Ensure shop floor staff are trained on AMD's documented processes and SOPs; document all training records.
- Support internal and external AS9100D audits; ensure production floor is audit-ready at all times.
Cross-Functional Interdependencies
Production Head works in constant coordination with: Engineering/NPD Head (work orders, job cards,
DFM queries), QC & CMM Head (first article, in-process, final inspection, rejection disposition), Store Manager (raw material issuance against work orders), Supply Chain Head (outsourcing requirements, special process coordination), Purchase Manager (tooling and consumable procurement), Maintenance Incharge (machine uptime), and CHRO (manpower, disciplinary actions for blue-collar staff).
ERP & Documentation Responsibilities
- Maintain STERP accuracy for all production work orders — opening, progress update, completion, and closure.
- Log machine downtime, scrap, rework, and production output in STERP daily.
- Ensure all NCRs and CAPA actions are recorded in STERP with complete traceability.
- Generate ERP-based production MIS reports for Operations Head review.
Education & Qualification
- Diploma in Mechanical / Production Engineering (Minimum) — BE/B.Tech preferred.
- ITI with advanced CNC trade certification may be considered for exceptional candidates with 15+ years of aerospace shop floor experience.
- Lean Manufacturing / TPM certification is a strong advantage.
