JLL Technologies
Product Manager, Smart Building Platform
Team
Workplace Management Product
The Opportunity
JLL manages real estate for some of the world’s largest organizations. Behind the scenes, a small product team is rebuilding how that work happens — replacing disconnected building systems, reactive maintenance cycles, and siloed sensor data with unified operational intelligence and AI-powered workflows.
This role sits at the center of that shift. As PM for the Smart Building Platform, you will own a next-generation product that unifies building systems, IoT data streams, and operational analytics to help clients achieve breakthrough gains in efficiency, sustainability, and occupant experience — across portfolios that span millions of square feet.
A defining part of this role is knowing how to operate at the edge of first- and third-party product boundaries: building systems, IoT protocols, and CMMS integrations are rarely clean. You will be the person who defines where JLL’s platform ends and where a vendor’s capability begins — and then builds the right thing in the right place.
What makes this role unusual:
You are PM for the Smart Building Platform — which means real ownership, not a sub-feature. You will set the roadmap, write the requirements, and be accountable for outcomes.
The AI work here is live, not aspirational. Agentic workflows on MCP architecture, NLQ interfaces into building data, and AI-accelerated prototyping are active investment areas — not backlog items.
Third-party building systems are not black boxes here. You will own the integration strategy for BMS, IoT, and CMMS platforms with the rigor of a first-party product owner.
What You Will Work On
Smart Building Platform strategy and roadmap
You will own the product roadmap for the Smart Building Platform, balancing near-term delivery against long-term strategic vision. That means translating client needs, market signals, and business objectives into a prioritized backlog — and defending those priorities with data. You will ensure the platform stays tightly aligned with JLL’s WPM delivery infrastructure and revenue goals, and evolve the roadmap as the IoT and AI landscape shifts underneath it.
Building systems and IoT integration
Smart building products live or die on integration depth. You will define the integration strategy for building management systems (BMS/BAS), IoT sensor platforms, and CMMS systems — owning the specs that bridge protocols like BACnet and Modbus with JLL’s data layer. You will work closely with engineering to ensure the platform surfaces building system data in ways that are actionable, not just visible.
AI and agentic product development
Workplace OS is JLL’s agentic platform, built on MCP architecture and natural language query capabilities. Your job is to define what Smart Building agents should do, and then build and ship them. That includes agents that reach into building systems to retrieve operational data, surface anomalies before they become incidents, and route work automatically based on real-time conditions.
This means building working AI prototypes — not just writing specs — to validate ideas quickly before engineering commitment. It means using AI tools (Claude, Copilot, and similar LLMs) as a daily productivity multiplier: synthesizing discovery findings, stress-testing requirements. And it means knowing the difference between a demo and a workflow-grade capability.
Requirements, specs, and delivery
You will define high-quality product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria — using AI tools with designers to accelerate drafting, iteration, and engineering handoff.
Your requirements are not long drawn-out documents but real working prototypes that you would have built along side your users. You will then work with engineering to bring those to production.
You will partner with engineering and program managers through the full planning-to-release lifecycle, and define the success metrics that determine whether what shipped actually worked.
Cross-functional leadership
You will build and maintain strong working relationships with engineering, program management, operations, sales, and client success. You will represent the platform in executive reviews, client conversations, and external forums. You will navigate ambiguity confidently, making well-reasoned decisions with incomplete information when the moment requires it.
How You Will Spend Your Time
No two weeks look identical, but across a typical quarter you will be:
Owning and prioritizing the Smart Building Platform roadmap, translating stakeholder input and discovery findings into a clear product direction that engineering can execute against
Running discovery sessions with facilities teams, implementation leads, and enterprise clients to surface workflow pain and validate product direction
Writing integration specs for BMS, IoT, and CMMS connections, with enough technical depth to lead the engineering conversation
Building AI prototypes in collaboration with engineering — using LLM tooling and MCP integrations to validate use cases before committing to a full build
Using AI tools fluently in your daily workflow: generating first drafts of PRDs, synthesizing research, producing competitive analyses, and accelerating design collaboration
Defining KPIs and success metrics for every initiative, and communicating outcomes clearly to product leadership and client stakeholders
Acting as the connective tissue between building operations teams, IoT/BMS engineering, and the data and AI platform organization
What You Bring
Required
4+ years of experience as a Product Manager with a track record of shipping products used by real customers
Demonstrated experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) in a professional product context — not familiarity, but active, habitual use that improves output quality and velocity
Experience owning product roadmaps from ideation through launch, including design collaboration and engineering handoff
Technical fluency across data models, integration architecture, and REST APIs — able to write integration specs and lead technical conversations without needing an engineer in the room
Comfortable working in an Agile/SCRUM environment, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release management
Strong written communication skills: clear, precise requirements documents; crisp executive updates; and the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
Data-driven mindset with demonstrated ability to define KPIs, interpret usage analytics, and translate findings into product decisions
Nice to Have
Experience with smart building technology, BMS/BAS protocols (BACnet, Modbus), IoT platforms, or facilities management CMMS systems
Familiarity with building system components and operations — HVAC, lighting controls, access control, generators
Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) architecture, LangChain, or agentic AI frameworks, and practical curiosity about how these patterns apply to enterprise building operations
Background in SaaS product development within enterprise or real estate technology contexts
Experience with AI-assisted design and prototyping workflows: using LLMs to generate wireframe briefs, user flows, or functional specs that designers can act on immediately
Why This Role
Buildings are one of the largest contributors to global energy consumption and carbon emissions — and how enterprises manage them is still largely reactive and manual. The platform you will work on directly changes that: giving facilities teams real-time visibility, reducing energy waste, and helping clients meet sustainability commitments that are now board-level priorities.
You will have genuine ownership, not a ticket queue. The scope is real, the stakeholders are engaged, and the decisions you make will shape how JLL’s clients operate their buildings. This is a remote-first role with a collaborative, mission-driven product culture, competitive compensation, and work at the intersection of enterprise AI, IoT, and the future of physical workplace operations.
If you want to own a product surface that is part IoT integration, part AI platform, and fully consequential — this role is unusual in the best way.
If this job description resonates with you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all of the requirements below. We’re interested in getting to know you and what you bring to the table!
