· Collaborate with the Infection Prevention and Control Officer on surveillance of infection and detection of outbreaks.
· Collect surveillance specimens.
· Conduct learning needs assessment for all categories and levels of staff.
· Generate HAI data for each clinical area.
· Liaise with ward nurses for early identification and collection of data of unusual/new infections/resistance patterns/clusters of infections/Surgical site infections.
· Generate awareness among patients and visitors about infection control.
· Ensure implementation of hand hygiene and other basic practices of Infection Prevention and Control.
· Conduct Infection Prevention and Control audits.
· Monitor bio-medical waste management.
· Promote awareness about sharp exposure management and post-exposure prophylaxis program. To be implemented hospital wide.
· Act as incharge for sharp exposure management, post exposure prophylaxis and monitoring of Hepatitis B vaccination/immune status of health-care staff.
· Generate audits on antimicrobial and disinfectant usage in each area, for review by the IPCO and presentation to the Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
· Meet daily with the IPCO to update the latter on the latest trends and take guidance on further course of action.
· Creating strategies and action-plans for the prevention of outbreaks.
· The investigation of possible outbreaks and the marshalling of proper resources in response in the event of a confirmed outbreak.
