About the Role
Gallery Silver Scapes is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Art Historian to research, analyze, document, and interpret artworks, artists, and art movements. The ideal candidate will contribute to exhibitions, publications, educational programs, and collection management while providing historical and cultural context for artworks. Art historians typically conduct research, interpret artworks, assist with exhibitions, and develop educational content for galleries and museums.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on artworks, artists, art movements, and historical periods.
- Develop accurate and engaging content for exhibitions, catalogues, brochures, and gallery publications.
- Prepare artwork descriptions, provenance records, and historical documentation.
- Assist in curating exhibitions and developing exhibition narratives.
- Analyze and interpret artworks considering their historical, cultural, and artistic significance.
- Collaborate with curators, artists, collectors, and gallery management.
- Support collection management, cataloging, and archival activities.
- Deliver presentations, lectures, gallery talks, and educational programs.
- Contribute to research articles, blogs, and publications related to art and culture.
- Stay updated on global art trends, auctions, exhibitions, and scholarly developments.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museology, Cultural Studies, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in an art gallery, museum, cultural institution, auction house, or research organization.
- Strong understanding of Indian and international art history.
- Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Proficiency in documentation, cataloging, and archival practices.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, and research databases.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in exhibition curation and collection management.
- Knowledge of contemporary art, heritage conservation, and museum practices.
- Familiarity with art market trends and artwork provenance research.
- Experience in writing exhibition catalogues, articles, and academic content.
- Foreign language proficiency will be an added advantage.
