Job Description – CMM Operator (CMM, Faro Arm & Laser Tracker)
Position Title: CMM Operator / Metrology Technician
Department: Quality Assurance / Inspection
Reports To: Quality Manager / QA Lead
Role Purpose
The CMM Operator will be responsible for operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), portable CMMs (Faro Arm), and Laser Trackers to perform precision dimensional inspections of aerospace and precision engineering components. The role requires strong knowledge of GD&T, metrology techniques, and aerospace quality standards (AS9100).
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection & Measurement
- Perform dimensional inspection of components, subassemblies, and tooling using CMM, Faro Arm, and Laser Tracker.
- Interpret and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) to inspection activities.
- Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain records.
- Programming & Setup
- Develop, modify, and run CMM inspection programs (using PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, or similar software).
- Set up parts, fixtures, and datums for accurate measurements.
- Ensure proper calibration and verification of measuring equipment.
- Quality Compliance
- Ensure inspections are performed as per AS9100, customer, and drawing requirements.
- Support First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102.
- Assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Continuous Improvement & Support
- Collaborate with design, production, and QA teams to resolve dimensional issues.
- Suggest improvements in measurement methodology for accuracy and efficiency.
- Maintain proper documentation, records, and traceability for audit purposes.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education:
- ITI / Diploma / Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Production, or related engineering field.
- Experience:
- 2–6 years of experience in CMM operations in aerospace/precision manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience with Faro Arm and Laser Tracker systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CMM programming software (PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, aerospace drawings, and specifications.
- Understanding of calibration, traceability, and metrology standards.
- Other Skills:
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
