Job Summary
The ETP Machine Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) to ensure wastewater is treated efficiently and discharged in compliance with statutory environmental regulations. The operator must ensure uninterrupted plant operation, maintain records, and support pollution control initiatives.
Roles & Responsibilities1. ETP Operations
- Operate the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Start up, monitor, and shut down ETP equipment safely.
- Monitor treatment processes to ensure effective wastewater treatment.
- Ensure continuous plant operation during assigned shifts.
2. Equipment Monitoring
- Operate pumps, blowers, agitators, dosing systems, filters, and sludge handling equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance and report abnormalities immediately.
- Perform routine inspections of all ETP equipment.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for repairs and preventive maintenance.
3. Chemical Dosing
- Prepare and dose treatment chemicals as per prescribed standards.
- Monitor chemical consumption and maintain adequate stock.
- Handle chemicals safely using appropriate PPE.
- Ensure proper storage of chemicals.
4. Water Quality Monitoring
- Monitor and record:
- pH
- TDS
- COD
- BOD
- Turbidity
- Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
- Flow rate
- Collect wastewater samples for laboratory testing.
- Report any deviations in water quality immediately.
5. Sludge Management
- Operate sludge dewatering equipment.
- Ensure proper collection, handling, and disposal of sludge as per company procedures.
- Maintain sludge disposal records.
6. Documentation & Record Keeping
Maintain accurate records of:
- Daily ETP operation log
- Chemical consumption
- Equipment inspection checklist
- Water quality test reports
- Sludge disposal records
- Breakdown and maintenance reports
- Shift handover reports
7. Preventive Maintenance
- Perform daily cleaning and routine maintenance of ETP equipment.
- Lubricate equipment as per maintenance schedules.
- Report equipment defects promptly.
- Support maintenance activities during shutdowns.
8. Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures while handling chemicals and equipment.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Pollution Control Board (PCB) norms
- Environmental regulations
- Factory safety procedures
- Company EHS policies
- Report spills, leaks, and environmental incidents immediately.
9. Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness of the ETP area.
- Ensure walkways are free from obstructions.
- Dispose of waste materials safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized chemical storage area.
10. Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance teams.
- Inform supervisors of process deviations or equipment failures.
- Support environmental audits and inspections.

Qualifications
- Education: ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 2–4 years in ETP/STP operations, preferably in a Food Processing or Frozen Food industry.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of ETP processes and wastewater treatment
- Basic understanding of water quality parameters (pH, BOD, COD, TDS, DO)
- Ability to operate pumps, blowers, and dosing systems
- Knowledge of chemical handling and safety
