JOB DESCRIPTION – LAB TECHNICIAN

Designation: Lab Technician
Location: Sanjivini Super Speciality Hospital, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow
Reporting To: Lab In-Charge / Pathologist
Job Summary
The Lab Technician will be responsible for collecting, processing, testing, and maintaining laboratory samples and ensuring accurate and timely laboratory reports while following all hospital and laboratory safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood, urine, stool, and other clinical samples as per standard procedures.
- Properly label, identify, store, and transport patient samples.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and investigations as assigned.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and analyzers.
- Prepare reagents, slides, and other materials required for testing.
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Record test results correctly in registers, laboratory software, or hospital systems.
- Immediately report abnormal or critical results to the concerned senior/pathologist.
- Maintain proper documentation and laboratory records.
- Follow infection-control, biomedical waste management, and laboratory safety protocols.
- Ensure cleanliness and proper functioning of the laboratory work area.
- Monitor stock of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies and inform the Lab In-Charge about shortages.
- Perform quality-control procedures as instructed.
- Handle patient samples with appropriate precautions and confidentiality.
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and other departments whenever required.
- Follow hospital policies, SOPs, and instructions issued by the management.
- Perform any other laboratory-related duties assigned by the Lab In-Charge or management.
Required Qualifications
- DMLT / B.Sc. MLT / BMLT or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Relevant experience in a hospital, diagnostic centre, or pathology laboratory will be preferred.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of laboratory procedures and sample handling.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and analyzers.
- Good observation and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of infection control and laboratory safety procedures.
