Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Design Engineer with hands-on knowledge and experience in the forging industry. The candidate will be responsible for designing and developing forging components, forging dies, tools, and related manufacturing solutions while ensuring product quality, manufacturability, and customer requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Design and develop forging components, forging dies, tools, and fixtures based on customer drawings and specifications.
- Prepare 2D drawings, 3D models, and detailed manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
- Understand and apply forging concepts such as material flow, grain flow, forging allowances, draft angles, flash, parting lines, and shrinkage allowances.
- Analyze customer drawings and convert them into suitable forging designs.
- Coordinate with the production and tool-room teams to ensure the design is feasible for manufacturing.
- Support the development of new forging products from design through production.
- Review and modify existing designs to improve product quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Conduct design reviews and identify potential manufacturing or quality issues.
- Work closely with the quality team to resolve dimensional and design-related concerns.
- Prepare and maintain design documents, drawings, BOMs, and engineering records.
- Support trial production and make necessary design modifications based on trial results.
- Coordinate with customers and internal teams regarding technical requirements and design changes.
- Ensure all designs comply with customer specifications, applicable standards, and internal quality requirements.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of forging processes, preferably hot forging, cold forging, or closed-die forging.
- Knowledge of forging die design and tooling concepts.
- Understanding of forging defects and their prevention.
- Knowledge of material behavior, metal flow, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or other relevant CAD software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, heat treatment, and inspection.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and coordination abilities.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in designing forging dies, press tools, and related fixtures.
- Knowledge of forging simulation software will be an added advantage.
- Experience in the automotive, heavy engineering, or industrial forging sector is preferred.
- Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and control plans will be an added advantage.
