We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven **Technical Sales Manager** to lead business development initiatives within the upstream oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building strategic client relationships, and driving revenue growth through technical sales of upstream oilfield solutions.
This role requires extensive knowledge of upstream oil & gas operations, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to work effectively with multinational clients across diverse markets. The position is based in Lagos, Nigeria, with frequent travel across Africa and the Middle East.

Key Responsibilities:
Market Intelligence & Business Development
* Conduct market research to identify industry trends, emerging opportunities, and prospective clients.
* Analyze competitor activities, pricing strategies, and market positioning to develop effective sales strategies.
* Identify new business opportunities within the upstream oil & gas industry.
Strategic Sales Planning
* Develop and execute business development strategies aligned with the company's growth objectives.
* Prepare annual business development plans and manage assigned sales budgets.
* Drive sustainable revenue growth while expanding market share.
Client Relationship Management
* Build and maintain long-term relationships with operators, service companies, EPC contractors, distributors, and strategic partners.
* Develop new customer accounts and strengthen existing client relationships.
* Represent the company at industry conferences, exhibitions, and networking events.
Opportunity Development
* Evaluate new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and potential collaborations.
* Assess commercial viability and profitability of prospective projects.
Proposal & Tender Management
* Prepare technical and commercial proposals, quotations, bids, and tender submissions.
* Collaborate with technical, operations, and supply chain teams to deliver competitive customer solutions.
* Ensure all submissions meet customer specifications and company standards.
Contract Negotiation
* Lead commercial negotiations with customers, suppliers, and strategic partners.
* Review contractual terms and conditions while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.
Product Qualification & Technical Support
* Conduct or supervise laboratory bottle tests for product evaluation.
* Coordinate and supervise field trials and product qualification activities.
* Provide technical support during product implementation and customer evaluations.
Performance Monitoring
* Track sales performance using KPIs and market intelligence.
* Prepare regular business development reports, sales forecasts, and pipeline updates for senior management.
* Recommend strategies for continuous business growth.
Risk Management & Compliance
* Identify commercial and operational risks associated with business opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and HSE standards throughout business development activities.

Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
* A postgraduate qualification or MBA is an added advantage.
* Minimum of **10 years' experience** in technical sales or business development within the upstream oil & gas industry.
* Strong understanding of upstream production operations, production chemicals, drilling/completion operations, or related oilfield technologies.
* Demonstrated experience preparing technical proposals, commercial bids, and tender documentation.
* Experience supervising product qualification activities, including bottle tests and field trials.
* Excellent negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
* Proficiency in CRM/ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
* Strong analytical, commercial, and strategic planning capabilities.
* Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Africa and the Middle East.
Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience working in multicultural environments, supporting multinational oil & gas clients, or managing business development activities across international markets will have a strong advantage.
