Design and Development Oversight:
- Oversee the design, engineering, and development of new press tools, including blanking, bending, forming, and progressive dies.
- Review and approve tool designs (2D/3D), die layouts, and Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure they meet technical specifications and production requirements.
- Conduct feasibility studies for sheet metal components and ensure "right first-time" approach in tool design.
- Lead the try-out, troubleshooting, and approval of new tools, ensuring they are production-ready.
Tool Room Operations and Maintenance:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the tool room, including scheduling and resource allocation.
- Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of tools to minimize production downtime.
- Ensure proper maintenance of tool history cards, logs, and spares management.
- Implement 5S and safety standards in the shop floor, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
Production Support and Quality Control:
- Coordinate with the press shop, production, and quality teams to resolve tooling issues during manufacturing.
- Analyze root causes of tool failures and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure that tools produce parts meeting customer quality standards and dimensional requirements.
Project Management and Customer Engagement:
- Prepare tool, component, and project quotations based on customer RFQs and drawings.
- Engage with customers for technical discussions, feasibility studies, and project updates.
- Monitor project timelines, including new product development (NPD), to ensure on-time tool delivery.
Team Leadership and Continuous Improvement:
- Lead, mentor, and train tool room personnel (technicians, designers).
- Implement Kaizen, Lean manufacturing, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives to improve tool life and reduce costs.
- Manage budgeting and cost-saving initiatives related to tooling.
