Role Purpose
To lead procurement operations with a strong focus on cost reduction, alternate sourcing, and supplier optimization, ensuring uninterrupted supply of raw materials and critical components while improving overall procurement efficiency and margins.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
- Drive cost reduction initiatives across raw materials and components
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through:
- Negotiations
- Bulk procurement
- Vendor consolidation
- Design/value engineering inputs
- Benchmark prices and track commodity trends
2. Alternate Sourcing & Supplier Development
- Identify and develop alternate suppliers for critical and single-source components
- Reduce supply risk through dual/multiple sourcing strategies
- Evaluate vendor capabilities (technical, quality, financial stability)
- Build a strong local and global supplier base
3. Procurement Planning & Execution
- Ensure timely procurement aligned with production plans
- Manage purchase orders, contracts, and delivery schedules
- Monitor supplier performance on cost, quality, and delivery (CQD)
4. Strategic Vendor Management
- Lead price negotiations and contract finalization
- Develop long-term partnerships with key vendors
- Conduct periodic vendor reviews and audits
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- R&D / Engineering → for alternate material/component identification
- Production → for demand planning
- Quality → for supplier qualification
- Support new product development (NPD) with cost-effective sourcing
6. Risk Management
- Identify supply chain risks (single vendor, import dependency, price volatility)
- Develop mitigation strategies (inventory buffers, alternate vendors, localization)
7. Compliance & Process Excellence
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies and audit requirements
- Improve procurement processes using ERP systems and analytics
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting

- % cost reduction achieved (YoY / per project)
- % spend under alternate sourcing
- Supplier lead time reduction

- Supplier base diversification index
- Inventory optimization / working capital impact
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Supply Chain / Commerce
- MBA (Supply Chain / Operations) – preferred
- 5–10 years of experience in procurement (manufacturing / instrumentation preferred)

- Strong negotiation and commercial acumen

- Knowledge of import/export and global sourcing
- ERP proficiency (SAP / Oracle or similar)

Preferred Industry Experience
- Instrumentation / Engineering / Electronics manufacturing
- Experience with precision components, electronics, or regulated supply chains
