Restaurant Steward Job Description Job Summary We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Restaurant Steward to join our back-of-house team. The primary goal of this role is to maintain absolute cleanliness, hygiene, and organization in our kitchen and dining areas. You will ensure that our culinary team always has clean tools and that our guests enjoy their meals in a safe, sanitary environment. Core Responsibilities Dishwashing & Sanitation: Operate commercial dishwashers and manage three-compartment sink stations to wash, sanitize, and dry all plates, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans. Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain clean floors by sweeping and mopping regularly. Safely clean kitchen equipment, prep tables, and storage shelves. Waste Management: Empty kitchen trash cans, recycling bins, and compost containers into outdoor dumpsters throughout the shift. Clean and sanitize bins as needed. Inventory & Organization: Carefully restock clean dishes, utensils, and cookware to their designated stations so the chefs and servers can access them quickly. Chemical Safety: Safely handle and store commercial cleaning chemicals according to health codes and standard operating procedures. Team Support: Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries, or help with basic prep work (like peeling vegetables) during quiet periods if requested by the Chef. Requirements & Qualifications Experience: No prior experience required; we are happy to provide hands-on training for the right candidate. Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is a plus. Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods (up to 8 hours) and comfortably lift or move up to 50 lbs (such as heavy trash bags or crates of dishes). Environment: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-temperature, and humid kitchen environment. Schedule: Flexibility to work evening shifts, weekends, and major holidays based on restaurant needs.
