Job Purpose
The CNC Gas / Plasma Cutting Operator is responsible for operating CNC-controlled gas or plasma cutting machines to cut metal sheets, plates, and structural components as per engineering drawings and production specifications. The role requires precision in machine setup, program execution, and adherence to quality and safety standards in a sheet metal fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC Gas Cutting / CNC Plasma Cutting machines to cut metal sheets and plates according to approved drawings and nesting programs.
- Load raw material onto the cutting bed using appropriate handling equipment and ensure proper alignment before cutting.
- Set machine parameters such as cutting speed, gas pressure, pierce height, and amperage based on material type and thickness.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CNC programs, and cutting layouts to ensure accurate cutting operations.
- Monitor cutting process and adjust machine settings to maintain cutting quality and minimize material wastage.
- Inspect cut components to verify dimensions, edge quality, and compliance with production specifications.
- Remove slag, burrs, and scrap material after cutting and ensure proper stacking of finished parts.
- Perform routine machine checks and basic preventive maintenance including cleaning torch heads, checking gas lines, and inspecting consumables.
- Maintain production records, machine logs, and report any machine malfunction or quality issues to the supervisor.
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements related to CNC cutting operations and gas handling.
Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or relevant technical field.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in CNC Gas Cutting or CNC Plasma Cutting operations in a fabrication or manufacturing industry.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of CNC cutting operations and nesting programs.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and CNC codes.
- Understanding of metal properties, cutting speeds, and torch settings.
- Familiarity with measuring tools such as vernier calipers, steel scale, and gauges.
- Strong focus on quality control and safety practices.
Working Conditions
- Work performed in a manufacturing / fabrication shop floor environment.
- Exposure to heat, sparks, metal dust, and heavy materials.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and handle metal components when required.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
