Job Summary
We are looking for a seasoned Senior Electrical Design Engineer with 8+ years of experience to lead electrical infrastructure design for large-scale commercial, high-rise residential, healthcare, and industrial building projects.
In this role, you will lead high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) power distribution engineering, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, and ELV systems. You will be responsible for complex electrical calculations, single-line diagrams (SLDs), technical specifications, team mentorship, and client coordination from concept design through construction administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Power Distribution Design: Design complete HV/LV power systems, including substations, transformers, main switchboards (MSB), diesel generators (DG sets), UPS systems, busduct risers, and distribution boards.
- Electrical Calculations: Perform short-circuit calculations, voltage drop, cable sizing, transformer sizing, generator capacity, breaker coordination studies, and fault level calculations.
- Lighting & Controls: Perform indoor/outdoor lighting simulations (using DIALux) and specify smart lighting control systems to meet energy code requirements.
- Auxiliary & ELV Systems: Design fire alarm & detection systems, lightning protection (NEC/IEC/NFPA 780), earthing networks, access control, CCTV, and data/telecom cabling containment.
- BIM & Design Deliverables: Oversee the preparation of Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs), containment layouts, panel schedules, and 3D BIM models in Autodesk Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
- Project & Team Leadership: Lead junior engineers and BIM modelers, conduct internal quality peer reviews, resolve design clashes, and coordinate directly with architects, structural engineers, and client representatives.
- Code Compliance & Approvals: Ensure all designs comply with National Electrical Code (NEC/IEC), NFPA, IEEE, energy codes (ASHRAE 90.1 / ECBC), and local electricity board/utility authority standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (B.Tech / B.E. / M.Tech) in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 8+ years of dedicated experience in electrical building services / MEP consultancy for medium to large-scale commercial, high-rise, or institutional construction projects.
- Core Software:
- Design & Modeling: Autodesk Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks.
- Electrical Calculation: ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or Siemens SIMARIS.
- Lighting Simulation: DIALux / DIALux evo.
- Technical Knowledge: Substation design, earthing/grounding networks, lightning protection, switchgear selection, fire alarm system design, and energy conservation codes.
- Leadership: Strong project management, team leading, technical report writing, and client-facing presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification (or local professional registration).
- Hands-on experience preparing utility authority submittal packages and negotiating transformer/substation approvals.
- Familiarity with green building standards (LEED, EDGE, IGBC) and renewable energy (solar PV) integrations.
