Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coding Auditor to work remotely on a freelance or consultant basis. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing medical coding work, identifying coding errors, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed audits of medical records and assigned medical codes.
- Review the accuracy and appropriateness of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Identify coding errors, discrepancies, omissions, and documentation-related issues.
- Verify whether assigned codes are fully supported by clinical documentation.
- Evaluate coding practices against applicable coding guidelines and standards.
- Prepare audit findings and provide clear feedback to medical coders.
- Recommend corrective actions and improvements to reduce recurring coding errors.
- Maintain accurate audit records, reports, and quality documentation.
- Monitor coding accuracy, compliance, productivity, and quality trends.
- Support internal quality assurance and coding improvement initiatives.
- Clarify coding-related issues with the concerned team whenever required.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and client information.
- Stay updated with changes in medical coding guidelines, regulations, and industry practices.
- Complete assigned audits within agreed timelines and quality standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 1–2 years of relevant experience in medical coding, coding quality, or medical coding audit.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation.
- Strong analytical and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to identify and explain coding errors clearly.
- Good knowledge of coding guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Good time-management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in computer and online communication tools.
Preferred Certifications
- CPC – Certified Professional Coder
- CCS – Certified Coding Specialist
- CCA – Certified Coding Associate
- Other recognized medical coding/auditing certifications
