The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff. The nurse provides first aid, manages medical records, coordinates healthcare services, conducts health awareness programs, and ensures compliance with school health and safety regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Health Care
- Provide immediate first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
- Assess and manage minor illnesses and injuries occurring during school hours.
- Monitor students with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, etc.
- Administer medications as prescribed and authorized by parents and medical practitioners.
- Maintain confidentiality of student health information.
Medical Records Management
- Maintain accurate and updated health records of all students and staff.
- Track immunization and vaccination records as per government guidelines.
- Maintain records of accidents, illnesses, treatments, and referrals.
- Prepare health-related reports as required by the school management.
Health and Safety
- Ensure the school infirmary/medical room is properly equipped and maintained.
- Monitor the availability and expiry dates of medicines and medical supplies.
- Conduct regular inspections of first-aid kits across the school campus.
- Assist in implementing infection control and hygiene practices.
Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and coordinate with hospitals, parents, and emergency services when required.
- Accompany students to healthcare facilities when necessary until parents arrive.
- Develop and maintain emergency medical response procedures.
Health Education & Awareness
- Conduct health awareness programs on hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and preventive healthcare.
- Educate students and staff on healthy lifestyle practices.
- Support school initiatives related to health and wellness.
Parent & Staff Coordination
- Communicate with parents regarding student health concerns and incidents.
- Coordinate with healthcare professionals for medical consultations and health camps.
- Provide guidance to teachers regarding student health conditions and accommodations.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with CBSE guidelines and applicable health regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and secure storage of medical records.
- Support health-related audits, inspections, and accreditation requirements.
Qualifications
- Diploma/Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (GNM/B.Sc. Nursing).
- Registered Nurse certification from a recognized Nursing Council.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of nursing experience.
- Experience in a school, pediatric clinic, or hospital setting preferred.
