BACKGROUND
The Hans Foundation (THF), established in 2009, is a Public Charitable Trust that works towards creating an equitable society to enhance quality of life for all through the empowerment of marginalized and underprivileged communities in India. The Hans Foundation works for the Health and Wellbeing of remote and under-served groups, with an additional focus on children, persons with disabilities and women. THF also works for holistic Education and Livelihood development of our communities. Our Two-Fold Strategy involves identifying and working within Aspirational Districts and high poverty index in the North, North-East and East regions within specific states, as well as catering to lower-income and migratory populations in cities, through urban programs.
Over its 15 years of existence, THF has reached more than 35 million beneficiaries through its programs. THF works with communities through direct implementation of projects on the ground in addition to providing local management and monitoring support to not-for-profit organisations in India funded through THF USA and RIST.

JOB PURPOSE
The IEC Expert will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) strategies and behavior change communication (BCC) campaigns to support project objectives in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), Education, Health, and Livelihood sectors. The role focuses on development of communication materials to promote behavioral and social change.
Key Responsibilities
1. IEC Strategy and Planning

Develop IEC and BCC strategies aligned with project goals.
- Prepare communication plans (Monthly/quarterly/annually), campaign calendars, and outreach activities.
- Identify target audiences and develop communication approaches accordingly.
- Ensure integration of gender, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity in communication interventions.
2. Content Development

Design and develop IEC materials such as:
- Posters, leaflets, brochures, booklets, flipcharts
- Training manuals and toolkits, audio-visual content etc

Social media and digital communication content
- Success stories, case studies, and newsletters
4. Capacity Building and stakeholder engagement

Train field staff, community mobilizers and stakeholders on IEC and communication approaches.
- Develop training modules and facilitation guides.
- Support community institutions in conducting awareness activities.
- Support advocacy and dissemination of project achievements.
- Facilitate stakeholder consultations and communication forums.
6. Monitoring and Documentation

Monitor effectiveness of IEC campaigns and communication activities.
- Collect feedback from communities and stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation of communication materials, events, and outreach activities.
- Prepare periodic reports, success stories, impact narratives, and knowledge products.
7. Digital and Media Communication

Manage social media communication and project visibility.
- Liaise with local media for coverage of project events.
- Support branding and visibility requirements of donors and implementing agencies.
Educational Qualification
-
Master's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Development Communication, Social Work, Rural Development, Public Health, Education, or related field.
- Specialized certification in IEC/BCC, Digital Communication, or Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) will be preferred.
Experience
-
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in IEC/BCC, community outreach, or communication for development.
- Experience in WASH, Education, Health, Livelihood, or rural development projects.
- Experience working with government programs, CSR projects, or donor-funded initiatives is desirable.

Education Qualification & Skill Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, social work/sociology or a related field. Preference will be given to the candidates having master degree.
- Proven experience (3-5 years) in developing IEC materials for diverse audiences, preferably in fields such as public health, education, or development.

Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear and concise messaging.

Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite etc) and multimedia editing tools.

Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.

Understanding of audience segmentation, behaviour change theories, and communication strategies.

Excellent knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Power Point etc) and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Knowledge of best practices in design, layout, and accessibility standards for print and digital media.

Strong knowledge of data analysis, calculations, and reporting, along with hands-on experience in using data analytics software for data management, interpretation, and reporting

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Fluency in written and spoken English and Hindi. Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
