The Hans Foundation (THF), established in 2009, is a Public Charitable Trust that works towards creating an equitable society to enhance quality of life for all through the empowerment of marginalized and underprivileged communities in India. The Hans Foundation works for the Health and Well-being of remote and under-served groups, with an additional focus on children, persons with disabilities and women. THF also works for holistic Education and Livelihood development of our communities. Our Two-Fold Strategy involves identifying and working within Aspirational Districts and high poverty index in the North, North-East and East regions within specific states, as well as catering to lower-income and migratory populations in cities, through urban programs.
Over its 15 years of existence, THF has reached more than 35 million beneficiaries through its programs. THF works with communities through direct implementation of projects on the ground in addition to providing local management and monitoring support to not-for-profit organizations in India funded through THF USA and RIST.
Job Title: Nurse Cum Counsellor
Project: Hans Community Wellness Program – WASH
Location: Khunti District (Karra & Torpa Blocks), Jharkhand – (40 Villages & Selected 35 School)
Reporting To: Senior Project Coordinator
Job Purpose:
The Nurse (Counsellor) will play a key role in improving adolescent health outcomes by providing basic health screening (Quarterly), counselling, and awareness sessions in schools and communities. The role focuses on anaemia reduction, menstrual hygiene management, nutrition awareness, and strengthening health-seeking behaviour among adolescent girls.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Health Screening & Clinical Support

Conduct quarterly health screening of adolescents (Hemoglobin testing, height, weight, BMI assessment) in coordination with the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU).
- Maintain individual health records and track progress of adolescents.
- Identify cases of anaemia, malnutrition, or other health concerns and refer them to appropriate health facilities.
Provide basic medical support during school visits and in the rest Room(selected 35 school).

2. Counselling & Adolescent Health Support

Provide individual and group counselling sessions in School and Community.

Menstrual hygiene management
- Nutrition and anemia prevention
- Physical and emotional changes during adolescence.

Mental health, stress, and emotional well-being
- Gender issues, domestic violence, and personal safety and Modules.

Support adolescents in making informed decisions about their health, Hygiene and future.
3. Training & Awareness Activities
-
Conduct monthly health and hygiene and WASH related Topics sessions in selected schools (4 agenda per Week).
- Receive training based on the modules developed by SPC, and in coordination with CRPs, conduct regular sessions in schools for adolescent girls on health, hygiene, and life skills.

Conduct training and awareness activities to educate community members on health, hygiene, WASH and nutrition through sessions, demonstrations, and outreach programs.

Facilitate Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) activities and IEC campaigns.
- Support awareness programs such as plays and campaigns on social issues (child marriage, child labour, School Droup-Out, DHUKU Pratha ).
- Support in life skills sessions focusing on confidence building, decision-making, and personality development With Education Team.
4. School-Based Interventions Support and Monitoring-

Support the establishment and functioning of:
- Hans Pad Bank in schools.
- Rest Room for menstrual discomfort
- Sanitary pad vending machines (pilot schools)
- Guide adolescent girls and Bal Sansad Health Ministers in managing pad banks effectively.
Assist in maintaining hygiene standards in school washrooms.

5. Community Engagement & Coordination

Work closely with Community Resource Persons (CRPs), Anganwadi Workers, Jal Sahiya and Sahiya, PRI members, and school authorities.
- Participate in School Management Committee (SMC) meetings and Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs).
- Promote community awareness on adolescent health and hygiene practices Including WASH Components.
6. Capacity Building

Identify and train adolescent girls as Change Ambassador.
- Mentor Ambassador to act as community change agents.
- Regular Capacity building Water User Committee on Sanitation and Hygiene.

Capacity building of CRPs at Field Level.
7. Documentation & Reporting
-
Maintain accurate records of health screenings, counselling sessions, and training activities.
- Prepare monthly reports on program progress, challenges, and outcomes.
- Ensure confidentiality of adolescent health data.
- Case Story and Success Story from intervention Village (Target 1 Per Month)
8. Required Qualifications:

ANM / GNM (mandatory)
Additional training in counselling or public health preferred

9. Experience:
-
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in community health or adolescent health
Experience working with NGOs or rural communities preferred

10. Skills & Competencies:
-
Strong counselling and communication skills
- Knowledge of adolescent health, nutrition, and menstrual hygiene
- Ability to work with schools and community stakeholders
- Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity
- Basic data recording and reporting skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Hindi and English.

11. Other Requirements:

Willingness to travel regularly to schools and villages in Karra & Torpa blocks
- Ability to work in field-based conditions.
