Job Responsibilities of an English Teacher in a Residential School [pgt withBE.d complusary]
1. Academic Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging English lessons (Grammar, Literature, Writing, Speaking & Comprehension).Prepare annual plans, lesson plans, and assessment schedules.Teach reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills effectively.Conduct regular class tests, assignments, and examinations.Prepare students for board examinations (Class 10 & +2).Provide remedial coaching for weak learners and enrichment for advanced students.Maintain academic records and progress reports.
2. Communication & Language Development
Develop students’ spoken English and confidence in communication.Conduct activities like debates, speeches, storytelling, and group discussions.Improve pronunciation, vocabulary, and writing skills.Encourage reading habits through library sessions, novels, and language practice.Support students in public speaking, presentations, and creative writing.
3. Residential / Hostel Responsibilities
Supervise evening study hours and guide students in English assignments.Provide extra support for reading, writing, and communication practice.Mentor students academically and emotionally.
4. Co-Curricular & Cultural Activities
Organize literary clubs, drama, poetry recitation, and writing competitions.Conduct assemblies, stage programs, and cultural events in English.Celebrate literary days and language-related programs.Encourage creativity, expression, and confidence in public performance.
5. Parent & Institutional Coordination
Attend parent meetings and provide feedback on language development.Collaborate with other teachers for interdisciplinary learning.Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and training programs.Contribute to school magazines, newsletters, and publications.
6. Administrative & Documentation Work
Maintain attendance registers and assessment records.Prepare question papers, marking schemes, and evaluation reports.Support academic planning, inspections, and school events.
