About us
Ushara Biotech is a women-led aquaculture company in Bhimavaram, West Godavari. We run an aqua diagnostics laboratory serving shrimp and fish farmers across the delta — water and soil analysis, shrimp seed (PL) quality testing, shrimp and fish health diagnosis and plankton analysis — and we cultivate and process our own spirulina for aqua feed and retail use.
We are early-stage and growing. That is the honest framing of this role: you are not joining a settled system, you are building one.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced aqua lab technician who can take complete charge of the laboratory — not someone who waits to be told what to run today. You will own the bench, the results, the turnaround time and the customer's trust in our reports.
Alongside the technical work, we want someone who brings customers with them. If you have spent years in this field, farmers, hatchery operators, technicians and dealers already know you and already trust your judgement. That reputation is worth more to us than any advertisement, and we will pay for it through the incentive structure rather than expecting it for free.
What you will do
Laboratory ownership
- Run the full testing panel independently: pH, salinity, DO, alkalinity, total hardness, calcium and magnesium, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, iron, H₂S and related water parameters
- Carry out soil analysis and interpret results for pond preparation
- Perform shrimp seed (PL) quality evaluation — length and uniformity, gut-muscle ratio, deformity checks, stress tests and grading
- Conduct shrimp and fish health diagnosis: gross examination, wet mounts, gill and hepatopancreas microscopy, parasite identification
- Handle microbiology: media preparation, sterilisation, TCBS and marine agar plating, total bacterial and Vibrio counts, laminar air flow operation and aseptic discipline
- Carry out plankton sampling, identification and counting
- Calibrate and maintain all instruments and keep the calibration and instrument logs current
- Manage reagent, media and consumable stock and reorder before anything runs out
- Maintain sample registers, result records and report files, and support CAA compliance documentation
Customer ownership
- Bring in and grow the laboratory's client base through your professional network of farmers, hatcheries, technicians and dealers
- Deliver results to farmers in Telugu and explain what each value means for their pond and what to do about it
- Build repeat testing relationships across the crop cycle — pre-stocking, mid-crop monitoring and problem diagnosis
- Promote our spirulina products to lab customers where relevant, and earn incentive on that revenue
Team and content
- Train and supervise interns and junior technicians using our in-house 10-day training programme
- Take part actively in content creation — appearing in and helping produce short Telugu videos on testing procedures, sampling, results and pond management for our social media
- Contribute to how the lab is run: pricing, turnaround commitments, new tests worth adding, equipment we should invest in
What we are looking for
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in an aqua diagnostics lab, hatchery lab, feed company lab or aquaculture consultancy
- B.F.Sc / B.Sc / M.Sc in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Microbiology, Zoology, Biotechnology or Life Sciences
- Able to run water, seed, shrimp, fish and microbiology testing independently, without supervision
- An existing network among farmers, hatcheries or dealers in the West Godavari belt
- Fluent Telugu; working English for records and reports
- Willing to travel for sample collection, farm visits and customer meetings
- Comfortable being on camera for technical content
- PCR experience (WSSV, EHP, AHPND, IHHNV) is a strong advantage but not essential
The quality that matters most
Ownership. We need someone who treats a wrong result as their own problem, who tells the customer the report will be late before the customer calls to ask, who reorders reagent before it runs out, and who will not sign a number they did not actually measure. If that is how you already work, this role will suit you and you will have real freedom in it. If you need daily instructions, it will not.
What we offer
- ₹10,000 – ₹25,000 per month, set by your experience and the client base you bring
- Incentive on spirulina product sales, on top of salary
- Travel reimbursement for field work
- Genuine authority over how the lab is run, not a job where you execute someone else's decisions
- Growth with the business as we expand testing services and production capacity
Selection process
CV shortlisting → technical discussion → a practical session at our lab where you run a few tests → discussion on terms → offer.
