Job Summary
The Lab Technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests and procedures that support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases in mothers, newborns, children, and general patients. The technician ensures accurate specimen collection, testing, reporting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment while following hospital safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Collection & Processing
- Collect blood, urine, stool, and other specimens from patients, including neonates, children, and pregnant women.
- Label, prepare, and process samples accurately for laboratory testing.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of specimens according to protocols.
Laboratory Testing
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, serology, and immunology.
- Conduct pregnancy-related and pediatric diagnostic tests.
- Operate laboratory instruments and analyzers efficiently.
- Record and interpret test results for review by senior laboratory staff or pathologists.
Quality & Safety Compliance
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, laboratory standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Perform quality control checks on equipment and reagents.
- Dispose of biomedical waste safely and appropriately.
Equipment Maintenance
- Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment regularly.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Monitor inventory levels of laboratory supplies and reagents.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate patient records and laboratory documentation.
- Enter test results into the hospital information system.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information.
Collaboration
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding test requests and urgent results.
- Support emergency laboratory services when required.
- Participate in departmental meetings and training programs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
- Valid professional license/certification as required by local regulations.
- Experience in hospital laboratory services preferred, especially in maternal and child healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and infection control practices.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and emergency duties if required.

- Experience handling pediatric and neonatal samples.
- Familiarity with automated laboratory systems and electronic medical records.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
