Varthagam International is a fast-growing private-label apparel manufacturer, trusted by fashion brands and startups across the globe. We specialize in delivering custom-made, high-quality knitted garments. As we expand, we’re looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Fabric Merchandiser to take full ownership of our fabric planning and execution process.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Fabric Merchandiser, you will be responsible for end-to-end fabric management—from yarn programming to fabric in-housing. You’ll lead fabric planning for new orders, identify and resolve quality issues, manage vendor relationships, and ensure seamless coordination between mills, processing units, and internal teams. A junior merchandiser will support you in daily follow-ups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and program yarn based on order quantities and fabric requirements
- Schedule and coordinate knitting, dyeing, and compacting processes
- Accurately calculate fabric consumption for all incoming orders
- Monitor production to identify and resolve any fabric quality issues at knitting/dyeing stages
- Communicate effectively with vendors and mills to resolve problems quickly
- Inspect and ensure fabric meets quality standards before in-housing
- Find and onboard new, reliable vendors for fabric sourcing and processing
- Coordinate closely with the internal teams and sales department for smooth fabric flow
- Supervise junior fabric merchandiser and guide them on daily follow-ups
- Maintain proper records of fabric movement, lead times, and consumption
- Ensure all fabric is delivered to the cutting stage without delay or defects
Requirements:
- Minimum 5-8 years of hands-on experience in fabric merchandising or textile production
- Strong understanding of yarn, knitting, dyeing, GSM, shrinkage, and compacting
- Excellent communication and vendor management skills
- Ability to detect and resolve quality issues quickly and efficiently
- Strong planning, problem-solving, and coordination skills
- Knowledge of production timelines and order tracking
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, order-driven environment
