Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Tekla Checker to join our Structural Steel Detailing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing Tekla models, shop drawings, erection drawings, and associated documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications, AISC standards, client requirements, and internal quality procedures. The role requires a strong understanding of structural steel detailing, fabrication, erection practices, and multi-disciplinary coordination to deliver accurate and constructible detailing packages.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform comprehensive checks of Tekla Structures models, shop drawings, erection drawings, and CNC outputs before client submission.
* Verify compliance with project specifications, contract documents, AISC standards, OSHA requirements, and client-specific detailing standards.
* Review structural geometry, member sizing, connections, welds, bolts, and miscellaneous steel components for accuracy.
* Ensure drawing dimensions, bills of materials, assembly marks, piece marks, and reports are complete and error-free.
* Validate fabrication and erection drawings for constructability and fabrication efficiency.
* Review RFIs, design revisions, and engineering responses, ensuring all approved changes are accurately incorporated.
* Coordinate with detailers, project leads, connection engineers, architects, MEP consultants, precast, and joist suppliers to resolve clashes and discrepancies.
* Identify detailing inconsistencies and provide clear, timely feedback to detailers for correction.
* Ensure adherence to company quality management systems (QMS), checking procedures, and document control requirements.
* Review model integrity, numbering, clash detection, and drawing consistency before release.
* Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring detailing issues and recommending process enhancements.
* Mentor junior detailers on detailing standards, quality expectations, and best practices.
* Maintain project schedules by completing checking activities within established timelines.
Required Qualifications
* Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 1+ years of experience in structural steel detailing
* Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection practices.
* Thorough understanding of AISC standards and detailing conventions.
* Experience reviewing commercial, industrial, warehouse, stadium, bridge, oil & gas, and miscellaneous steel projects is preferred.
Technical Skills
* Advanced proficiency in Tekla Structures.
* Strong knowledge of steel connections, shop detailing, and erection detailing.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM coordination tools.
* Ability to review CNC files, NC data, and fabrication reports.
* Experience with multi-trade coordination and clash resolution.
* Familiarity with project specifications, fabrication standards, and quality assurance
