Job Title: Nursing Superintendent
The nursing superintendent is the administrative in-charge of the nursing department of the hospital and will ensure smooth functioning of all the nursing services in the hospital and mini units.
Duties may include but not limited to the following:-
- The nursing superintendent is responsible to the Medical Superintendent (MS) for planning, organization and development of nursing services in the hospital.
- Supervising and controlling nursing services.
- Preparation and submission of MIS reports.
- To be part of recruitment process and help in selection of nursing staff and responsible for their in-house training to meet the requisite nursing standards.
- To ensure adequate availability of staff in all departments.
- To keep the hospital administrator and the medical superintendent informed of all the activities and problems in relation to the care of patients.
- Recommend personnel and material requirement for nursing and various nursing service departments of the hospital
- Take regular rounds of the hospital and accompany medical superintendent (MS) during his rounds.
- To organize, direct and supervise day, evening and night nursing services for competent nursing care.
- To continuously analyze and evaluate the nursing services.
- To visit serious patients at least twice a day.
- To prepare mid-night report every day in the morning and present it to MS.
- To counsel her subordinate staff and handle their grievances promptly.
- To prepare duty roaster of the nursing staff and oversee its implementation.
- To check correctness of all medical records with more emphasis on medico-legal records.
- To check inventory and stock registers on daily basis and ensure adequate supply of consumables and functional equipments.
- Investigate all complaints regarding nursing care and personnel, and submit report to the medical superintendent for further action.
- Initiate and encourage research in nursing services.
- Periodically interact with clinical heads to discuss problems in patient care.
- Assist in formulating policies concerning nursing services.
- To educate the nursing staff of the Hospital by conducting continuing nursing education programs.
- To provide awareness regarding cleanliness as part of infection control.
- To participate in staff meetings whenever called for.
- To comply with any other works assigned by seniors.
- Responsible for -
a) Providing adequate and qualitative nursing care in the hospital.
b) Nurses training, attendance and discipline etc.
c) Managing nursing hostel.
d) Proper documentation from admission to discharge of a patient.
e) Good housekeeping of the area under her control.
f) Diet arrangements for all admitted patients.
g) Resolving patients’ complaints regarding nursing care.
h) Coordination with consultants and other staff members to achieve quality nursing care.
i) Disposal of waste including biomedical waste as per prescribed procedure.
j) Implementation of hospital policies and objectives.
k) Strict observance of visiting hours fixed by hospital administration.
l) To be available on call 24 x 7
